Travis now works with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). When he isn't out playing with animals you can more than likely find him on Xbox Live under the gamertag bankshafthenry, or somewhere in Middle Earth in search of the Ring.
Joey Things
After our glorious trip down here in some pouring rain and an incredibly slow Ruby Tuesday's, we got to our hotel room and somehow managed to stuff six people into it. Everybody had snuggle buddies and it felt like we were all back in Junior College. Seriously. Skylar Cobb and Cole McBroom, two grown men, both shared a roll-out cot that would comfortably sleep a 12 year-old and that's about it. It was one of the cutest things I've ever seen.
Actually. I take that back. It was better than rooming in Junior College at times. If you see me in person, ask me about Eastern Oklahoma and sleeping in their spare dorms on spring break. My former pitching coach, Pat Evers, who is now the head coach at Jeffco, can attest to what a thrill that was as well :)
If you're at the field today before the game I highly recommend coming to the SEMO tailgate spot. Not only will there be a bunch of Redhawk fans around, but you'll get the pleasure of seeing Perry Middleton and myself put on a clinic in washers.
On more of a baseball related note, today still gets me so excited and I don't even get to play anymore. Playoff baseball is always something special. It doesn't matter where you're playing at. Playing in the post season is the absolute best time of the year. Even at someone else's field--it doesn't matter. Everybody gets amped up for the chance to move on.
If you haven't ever experienced a SEC baseball game then you're in for a treat. SEC stadiums are big, they're loud, and the home fans LOVE their team. I played in front of 10,000 people in Grand Junction, Colorado, for the Juco World Series in 2012, and it was incredible--but it still doesn't compare to how loud and intense SEC baseball games can get. It's a thrill even if you're the visiting team because the cheering gets taken to an entirely different level in literally every aspect. I'm still holding the Cap as my all time favorite place to play, of course, but the SEC is a fun time.
I had the pleasure this morning of seeing a Joey Lucchesi roaming about the breakfast area on his way to a mobility/stretch workout. In honor of him and his stellar character, perhaps I'll have to get a sweet tea and throw some creamer in it today just for good luck.
Game time is at 1:30 and I hope to see a ton of bright red in the crowd. I'm out for now--Perry and I have to get our washer-throwing arms lose--but if you're like my good friend Ryan Lenaburg and "have a phone, have a Twitter, and read things" then check me on Twitter all day @legendofhayes for more #JoeyThings and whatever I feel you need an update on concerning the pregame. Go Redhawks!
