Southeast freshman quits women's basketball team

Southeast Missouri State's women's basketball team had its second player quit the team this season.

Freshman forward Bailey Geiman quit earlier this week.

"I guess just to say this truthfully, I feel like the group we have right now, I feel like they're all in the boat," Southeast coach Ty Margenthaler said. "It's really nice and to be honest with you I feel a little bit more energy from the team. I feel a lot more communication from the team. It's just one of those things, I feel like the group we have now is a group I really want to go to bat with, and I feel they want to go to bat with each other, and sometimes it's a good thing."

Geiman, who is from Stilwell, Kan., will continue taking classes at Southeast and look to transfer to a different school to play basketball, according to Southeast assistant sports information director Ryan Hilgemann.

Part of Geiman's decision to quit was because of playing time.

"I think reading between the lines, a big part of that was a factor, which is unbelievable to me," Margenthaler said. "But, you know, like I said, I want everyone that's win, lose, play, not play. I want great teammates and buy into it, so I think we have that right now."

Brittany Harris quit the team around Christmas and Margenthaler attributed it to her wanting to focus on academics.

The fact the Show Me Center is among the best facilities in the OVC doesn't guarantee success for SEMO almost always in the last decade in basketball. One has to wonder why.

There is no logical reason SEMO shouldn't be in the Top 4 some years.

The Show Me Center is among the best facilities in the region. But TRCC / ASU and Murray State almost always have better basketball teams? I'm ready for a logical answer?

Murray State has been a consistent winner in OVC basketball. I graduated from Murray State during the Popeye Jones era and the old barn at Racer Arena was packed for every game.

The CFSB Center is a great place to watch a basketball game. It seats 8600 for basketball.

Building a consistent winner will bring the fans back at SEMO, but until then, there won't be a true consistent following or home court advantage.

I want a Gary Garner team that can take a team to the wire in the final minute in the first round of the NCAA Tournament beef. It's long overdue. Does anyone remember that SEMO basketball team?

Good facilities should attract players if people show up to watch the games.

OVC college games are more exciting than high school games. No logical reason for people not to show up for the college games. Most of them are close. The fans are letting their programs down.

It may take a Tyler Hansborough or Otto Porter Jr. going local to turn things around but Corliss Williamson of Russelville, Ark., chose Arkansas over other programs and won a national title in 1994. It can happen anywhere.

Why don't your write a blog on your topic instead of using a comments section about a story completely irrelevant from what you are stating? Furthermore, there is a HUGE difference between Corliss Williamson choosing Arkansas and an Otto Porter Jr or Hansborough choosing Southeast. Univ. of Arkansas is the top tier athletic university in the state of Arkansas. That is more comparable to Mizzou.

DW Mizzou couldn't even get TH, so I doubt a lower tier Murray State could.
