Sauer’s big day gives Jackson win over CBC

The Jackson Indians baseball team defeated the Christian Brothers College Cadets 5-3 on Tuesday at Jackson Stadium.

Jackson ace John Paul Sauer got the start and went 6.1 innings with seven strikeouts, two walks and just one earned run. Sauer, who missed some of the season with an ACL tear has gotten back to form little by little with it all culminating against powerhouse CBC.

Indians head coach Josh Roach had nothing but good things to say about how the Tulane University commit performed today.

“Well, I'll tell you what, this was the game where he finally got back to where JP knows he can be, this was the game that he wanted,” Roach said. “He pitched the lights out, he threw fantastic. That's a big confidence booster for him and I know he's ready for the district tournament now.”

Both teams took a few innings to get going offensively before CBC struck first in the top of the fourth, taking a 1-0 lead. The Indians answered with a four-run fourth inning to take the lead back at 4-1.

Jackson’s Drew Parsons singled to left field and brought in Drake Weber, four straight walks and a sacrifice fly by Jaiden Glency gave the Indians the next three runs.

In the fifth, Jackson added another run on a single by Waylon Hale and Owen Osborne came in to score for the 5-1 lead.

CBC added two in the top of the seventh but ultimately came up short, Roach said the offense did not do anything fancy but all that matters is they got the job done.

“Get a couple of singles here and there, get guys at third with less than two outs then get a fly ball or a ground ball, or even walk with bases loaded and work some counts,” Roach said “The guys just had a lot of quality at-bats and tried to compete at the plate.”

Jackson will host Poplar Bluff on Wednesday with a win ensuring the Indians finish the regular season undefeated in the SEMO Conference and Class 6 District 1.
