Saxony rolls Fox in first MSHSAA-sanctioned volleyball match

The Saxony Lutheran Crusaders boys volleyball team defeated Fox 3-0 on Thursday at Saxony Lutheran High School. The Crusaders cruised to their second win of the season, winning each set 25-8, 25-10 and 25-14.

The Missouri High School Athletic Association declared boys volleyball an official sport at the end of last season, making this Saxony’s first MSHSAA official home boys volleyball match.

Crusaders head coach Stephanie Brown said they are excited their sport has been made official but their day-to-day volleyball activities will not change.

“Before it became MSHSAA sanctioned, the people in charge of boys volleyball tried to run it as if it was a MSHSAA sport. They still did districts, quarterfinals and state, they still did all of the accolades for all districts and whatever,” Brown said. “So nothing's changed for us, we're just out here playing and just trying to do the best that we can do.”

The front row for the Crusaders had a major height advantage over the Warriors, 6 foot 7 inch senior Luke Eggemeyer helped spike down many points for Saxony.

The Crusader back row, led by senior libero Dalton Head only allowed a total of 32 points for Fox. Brown was complimentary to both areas of the court, saying they took things they learned in practice to heart.

“My hitters as a whole did fantastic, they didn't just swing for the fences, they were making shots and trying to place them to get the point and it was it was a lot of fun to watch tonight,” Brown said. “My back row was very big, I was very impressed with our defense. We had a couple of balls drop that we probably shouldn't have, but all in all, they covered a lot of ground tonight.”

With the victory the Crusaders move to 2-0 and will next compete in the Belleville East Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
