The Jackson Indians volleyball team’s season ended on Saturday at the hands of Lafayette High School out of Wildwood, Missouri. The Lancers are the defending Class 5 State Champions and put away the Indians in straight sets, a repeat of last season.

Lafayette came out swinging, dismantling the Indians 25-6 in the first set. The second set saw Jackson improve slightly, only losing 25-16 before the Lancers took the match with a 25-14 win. Indians head coach Dave Mirly said the loss was not in any way the team’s fault but they simply ran into a better team.

“Lafayette is a buzzsaw. They are extremely well-coached, and they have great athletes, great players. They played remarkably today against us,” Mirly said.

“I'm proud of my girls. They were proud of themselves after the game in the locker room. They were excited because they were not scared of Lafayette and they were not intimidated by them. We didn't lose because of things we did on our side of the net but we lost because Lafayette was just that good today.”

Jackson will say goodbye to nine seniors, a group that was part of four straight district titles and 121 wins. Mirly said they are not just good players but good kids who will all be successful and the younger players will step up.

“I'm just sad because these seniors meant so much to our program and I'm just going to miss them so much for next year. They’re such great young ladies who are gonna go off and do wonderful things in life. They're going to be great college students and going to be great and whatever career they choose,” Mirly said. “Next year, of course, the younger ones are ready to take their place. Right now I'm just sad that it's over because I enjoyed coaching them so much through the last six years.”
