High School baseball roundup, Sept. 15: Oran chalks up 16 on the road against Bell City

Oran baseball had its way as the Eagles traveled to Bell City, scoring 16 and dominating the Cubs in a five-inning effort, eventually winning 16-2.

Fueled by a nine-run fourth inning, Oran’s offense received multi-hit nights from four different batters, while senior Luke Peterson’s four RBIs led the Eagles for the game with two hits, one of which went for a home run.

Oran (8-1) plays the Twin Rivers Royals at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20 on the road, while Bell City, now 4-3, takes on the Royals itself at 4:30 p.m. on Friday at home.

Advance baseball made no mistake against Naylor on Thursday, scoring nine runs in the first inning to promptly shut down the visiting Eagles and eventually win 15-0 to end its five-game losing streak and improve to 2-5, while Naylor fell to 3-5.

Senior Hayden Laird and classmate Eli Ford both finished with three hits for the Hornets, with Laird’s three hits driving in four runs. Senior Kip Holman’s three RBIs followed close behind Laird on two hits of his own.

Advance senior Jed Garner finished with nine strikeouts, allowing just one hit and two walks across four innings of pitching on a strike percentage of 56.4% in his shutout win.

The Hornets are next in action at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19 at home against Neelyville, while Naylor faces a 4:30 p.m. matchup on Friday at home against 2-5 Puxico.
