Boys Basketball Roundup, Jan. 21: Richland routs Southland for homecoming victory

The Richland Rebels celebrated homecoming with a 67-30 victory over Southland on Friday night at Essex.

The Rebels shot out to a 24-6 lead after one quarter and took a commanding 44-10 lead into halftime.

Freshman Eric Williams paced Richland with a game-high 18 points. Junior Damon Ivy scored 12 and senior Matt Finch had 10.

Josiah McMinn led Southland with nine points.

Richland (6-10) will face Advance in the first round of the SCAA Basketball Tournament at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Bloomfield High School.

Southland (4-8) will host Gideon in a Tri-County Conference matchup at 6 p.m. Monday.

Bernie 56, Puxico 32

The Bernie Mules held Puxico to two points in the first quarter and rolled to a 56-32 homecoming victory Friday night at Bernie High School.

The Mules, who stretched their win streak to five games, scored 20 points in the first quarter of the SCAA matchup and held quarter leads of 34-14 and 44-23.

Tristan Johnson led the Mules with 17 points, including three 3-pointers; John Nimmo had 16 points and Noah Foster scored 15.

Brayton Bridges paced Puxico with 13 points.

Puxico (9-6, 1-2 SCAA) will face Woodland in the first round of the SCAA Basketball Tournament at 8:30 p.m. Monday at Bloomfield High School.

Bernie (15-1, 5-0) will face Bell City in the first round at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Oak Ridge 55, Chaffee 40

Not much has gone right for Chaffee in recent weeks.

The Red Devils dropped their 12th straight game on Friday, falling 55-40 to visiting Oak Ridge.

Chaffee controlled the tempo much of the first quarter, taking a 19-11 lead into the second.

The second quarter turned the tide as Oak Ridge dominated Chaffee, holding the hosts to just three points to take a 25-22 lead into halftime.

Chaffee came within two points by the end of the third but struggled offensively in the fourth quarter, as the Bluejays outscored the Red Devils 17-4 to earn a 15-point win.

Oak Ridge junior Camren Volz led all scorers with 24 points, hitting three 3-pointers and going 9-for-10 at the free-throw line. Sophomores Ty Wilson and Konnor Hobeck added 16 and 10 points, respectively.

Levi McKinnie and Michael Dollins paced the Red Devils with 12 points each.

Oak Ridge (7-7) hosts Oran (7-7) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, while Chaffee (4-13) will entertain Leopold (10-3) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
