Stoddard County runners compete in Jackson cross country meet

Five Stoddard County schools competed in the 28-team season-opening Jackson Invitational cross country meet Saturday at Jackson City Park.

The race was divided into eight divisions: senior boys and girls, junior boys and girls, sophomore boys and girls and freshman boys and girls.

The freshman races were 1.95 miles long, while the others were 2.35 miles. The usual length of cross country races is 3.1 miles.

Dexter senior Carter Dorton and Dexter freshman Abbie Lloyd earned the only top 10 finishes among county athletes.

Lloyd was third in the freshman girls race in 14 minutes, 48.18 seconds. Lauren Eftink, of Notre Dame, won the race in 13:46.05.

Dorton recorded a time of 14:28.94 in the senior boys race. Jaden Deaton, of Poplar Bluff, won the race in 12:25.71.
