Oran duo named Scott-Mississippi Conference Players of the Year

Oran duo Leah Cauble and Jacob Shoemaker were named 2017-18 Scott-Mississippi Conference Players of the Year on Thursday during the announcement of the all-conference teams.

Cauble, a junior, led the girls basketball team with a whopping 36 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals per game. The season ended for the Lady Eagles after a quarterfinal loss to Neelyville, who went on to win the Class 2 state championship.

Shoemaker, a junior, also led the boys team in scoring. He averaged 22 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 3.1 steals for Oran, who dropped a sectional to Hayti – who finished second in Class 2 – to end the season. The Eagles finished 21-6 on the year.

Oran girls coach Ethan Evans was named the Coach of the Year. He led the team to a 23-5 record, a regular season conference championship and a conference tournament championship.

Chaffee coach Josh Govreau was named the boys conference Coach of the Year. He led the Red Devils to an 18-7 record and a regular season conference championship after finishing 6-17 last year.
