Malden, Portageville advance to title game of BHC varsity girls basketball tournament

PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. - The No. 1 seeded Malden Green Wave and No. 2 seeded Portageville Bulldogs are set to collide in the Bootheel Conference varsity girls basketball championship after putting together strong third quarters against their semifinal opponents Monday night.

Malden erased a 29-20 halftime deficit when it outscored No. 3 seeded Hayti 14-2 in the third quarter and hung on for a 52-49 win in the first varsity girls semifinal.

Portageville outscored the No. 3 seeded Campbell Camels by 13 points in the third quarter on its way 66-53 victory in the second varsity girls semifinal.

Malden (9-8) will play host Portageville (14-9) in the varsity girls title game Friday at 6:30 p.m. Malden won at Portageville 53-52 in the first meeting on Jan. 18.
