MISSOURIAN ROUNDUP: Delta girls basketball lose in the Lady Devil Invitational semifinals

Sophomore Macey Smith once again led her team with 12 points as the sixth-seeded Delta girls basketball team fell 41-33 to second-seeded Puxico in the Chaffee Lady Red Devils Invitational Tournament.

If the Bobcats won it would have been their second upset of the tournament.

Lexi Mitchell tossed in eight points for Delta (3-2), which trailed by five points at halftime. The Bobcats will face fourth-seeded host Chaffee (3-1) for third place at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Faith Oliver scored a game-high 24 points, half of which came from behind the arc, to lead Puxico (7-1). The Indians will take on top-seeded Oran (4-0) for the tournament championship at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Junior Krista Rhodes drained a game-high 30 points, half of which came from behind the three-point line, to lead the third-seeded Cardinals to their first win of the season in a single-digit victory over the seventh-seeded Eagles in a consolation semifinal of the Chaffee Lady Red Devils Invitational Tournament.

Hannah Scott scored 12 points for Woodland (1-2), which maintained a 25-16 lead at halftime before the Eagles attempted a second-half comeback and outscored the Cardinals by three points to erase the deficit but ultimately fell six points short in getting the win.

The Cardinals will square off against fifth-seeded Kelly (1-2) for the consolation championship at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Faith Archie had 23 points and Grace Sutton pitched in 12 points to pace East Prairie (0-5).
