NMCC boys basketball team beats Charleston in double overtime to advance to Class 3 quarterfinals

DEXTER, Mo. -- The New Madrid County Central boys basketball team defeated Charleston 105-92 in double over in a Class 3 sectional at Dexter High School on Friday afternoon.

Charleston junior Tenerrious Ewing saved the Bluejays season when he made a 3-pointer just before the end of regulation to tie the game at 70.

It was Willie Jimerson who then saved the Eagles season at the end of the first overtime. The senior standout was fouled just before the buzzer and calmly hit two free throws with no time on the clock to send the game to double overtime tied at 83.

Asten Newsom was dominant in the paint for NMCC in double overtime as the Eagles pulled away for the win to advance to the Class 3 quarterfinals.

Jimerson finished with a remarkable 53 points for NMCC. He made 15 2-point shots, one 3-pointer and was 20 of 21 from the free-throw line. Newsom finished with 19 and Javarcus Word added 16 for the Eagles.

Senior star Delfincko Bogan, who lead Charleston's charge back into the game in the fourth quarter, scored 28 points before fouling out with under a minute to go in regulation.

Junior Dontarius Sharp added 20 for the Bluejays and Ewing finished with 18.

NMCC with face Park Hills Central for a place in the final four at 1 p.m. Saturday at Jefferson College in Hillsboro, Missouri.
