Highlights from Rachel's days in college include having a class down the hall from Chase Daniel and having NCAA wrestling champion Ben Askren hold the door open for her at Brady Commons, Mizzou's student center. She spent time covering Mizzou basketball, softball and baseball while working for the Columbia Missourian and is excited to return home to Southeast Missouri to cover local sports for semoball.com.

Oran-Sturgeon game postponed until Tuesday

The Oran-Sturgeon Class 1 baseball semifinal has been postponed by rain. The teams will play at 10 a.m. Tuesday with the other Class 1 semifinal between Sante Fe and Dadeville to follow.

The championship game will be played at 10 a.m. Wednesday. There will be no third-place games played for Class 1 or 2.

From earlier, when the game was delayed but not yet postponed:

I'm sure all of the players on both teams are anxious at this point, but the delay made me think of a conversation I had with Oran senior Kody Moore following his team's quarterfinal win over Naylor.

Some rain fell the day and/or night before the game and Moore said he was worried all night that it would be postponed -- so much so that he got to the field at 9:30 a.m. to help his coaches prepare the field and stayed until about 12:30 p.m., when he left to prepare for the 4 p.m. game.

Moore knew he would be starting that game on the mound. I'm not sure if it will be him or Seth Ressel getting the nod today. Oran coach Mitch Wood told me he hadn't made up his mind on Saturday morning, but I'm sure the players know by now.

"Just thinking about, 'I'm going to get to throw this game. It's going to be in my hands today' -- it was driving me nuts," Moore said about why he headed to the field so early before the quarterfinal. "I couldn't sit at home anymore.

"I'm not a very patient person. I hate waiting. I can't stand it. Just all the possibilities running through my head, I couldn't stand it anymore. I had to come out here."

I'm sure Moore wishes he could head to the field, or really any field, right now.

Looks like the line that extends across most of the state east to west may track a few miles north of O'fallon as long as there is not additional development along the line to the south in the heating of the day. But it's going to be close.

The latest hourly weather forecast for Tuesday in O'Fallon is calling for a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms at 3 a.m., 4 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and noon. There is at least a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms most other hours Tuesday until 8 p.m.
