PB girls should have been #1 before Dexter beat MH

Agreed on Poplar Bluff. Sikeston should not be above Dexter and Kennett should probably not be above ND. Things may shake up a bit in next weeks poll.

I think the Delta girls should receive at least one vote for beating a good Shawnee team on the road, and then playing lights out in a big win over Scott City.

Massey ratings is a computer generated ranking. This poll is voted on by people who watch both teams play every week.

I know Massey is computer generated. Just still think it's odd that SCC is that far down overall in the state. They should be tied in both polls. I don't care what the so-called writers think, these two teams are even.

Another question is, IF both teams win state, who is the number one team in SEMO? The Class 1a team or the Class 4a team? What if Cape pulls off a miracle and wins state?

I find it odd that SCC hasn't beaten any spectacular teams. They've lost to a couple of them, but not beaten any of them. SCC is a great team, but their wins are pretty comparable to Sikeston's wins. Sikeston has beaten a previously state-ranked Class 5 team (Holt) and a current state-ranked Class 5 team (Cape).

I'm not trying to take anything away from SCC. Like I said, they are a great team. However, what Sikeston has done to this point this season is more impressive.

Everyone says SCC and sikeston are tied, and I agree with that. But I HATE when teams are tied in polls. SCC is two time defending state champs, I believe this is this tie breaker. If both teams win state, I still believe SCC should be #1 seeing as how they would have a 3 peat. It's just tough love in my opinion.

You put up a great argument buckmajor, however; SCC is far more competitive than anyone in their class. If Sikeston was in class 1 they would do the same. With saying that, Sikeston plays more competitive basketball.

Rocketsbro has a better argument! Who has SCC really played. If Sikeston beats Cape Friday I think that should put them ahead of SCC. Look Sikeston has beaten these ranked teams: Cape, hopefully twice, Holt, Charleston, kennett, Caruthersville. Good teams as well as Poplar Bluff, who was hot.

Bottom line is out of the 20 games Sikeston has played to date, they have played 13 teams in the top 150. SCC has played 6 teams.

Bleacherbum I see your point, but I have to disagree. The reason we have classes is to even the playing field between schools. I don't think it is harder to win one class than another, it's all proportional. We, the people of this area, just see SCC as a super power blowing teams out, but they are beating teams there size, they just have a really great program. We can't fault the other class 1 schools because they aren't as good. Every school in a certain class has the same opportunity to get players from it's student pool. SCC just has great ones for a few years here.

BuckMajor, isn't Sikeston blowing out teams as well? 15 of Sikeston's 20 wins have been by more than 20 points. 13 of those 15 games have been by more than 25 points. 9 of the 15 games have been by more than 30 points.

Population and school size doesn't mean much when the talent pool you draw from has tremendous basketball players, including a 6'9" all-american. Other Class 1 schools may draw from the same population as SCC does, but they aren't drawing from the same level of talent. SCC's talent is just far greater than any other Class 1 school and many, many larger schools. Now year in and year out will this be the case? Of course not, but right now their talent is very high. And of course, year in and year out a larger school will have a deeper and more consistent pool to choose from.

SCC may or may not be the best team in the area. But it's hard to argue because they won Class 1 the past two years that they are better than Sikeston this year. I mean lets me honest, other than SCC, Class 1 is really, really weak. There's just no challenges on that level for them. Put Sikeston on that level, and they'd have three state titles in a row too. So you can't really use that as your argument in a poll. If you think SCC is better because they are better, then that's how you vote. Not because they won state the past couple years.

Semohoops I think your first paragragh is along the lines of what I was trying to say, I think, you always confuse me. Can other schools be faulted because this year they don't have the talent in their pool to draw from!? They aren't drawing from the same level of talent THIS YEAR. SCC will be down sometime, and maybe another class one team will have a great talent pool. And yes a larger school has a larger pop. and pool, that why their divided into classes and it's proportional. As far as class one I don't believe you can say it's weak, just because one team is amazingly good. I know its girls basketball but 2 out SV losses were to the number 1 team in the poll and there other two losses were without two starters who were playing soccer in north Carolina. One of those losses was to Crystal city who is 8th in class 3 and the other to a pretty good Ste. gen team.. Just food for thought

Someone said sikeston beat Holt by single digits. Well, Holt lost to helias by 10. Helias lost to Notre Dame by 15. ND lost to SCC by 30. Therefore, SCC by 40 over sikeston.

Nonetheless, I will agree that in a head to head game, SCC could foreseeably win. However, there is absolutely no chance (zilch, zippo, nada) that SCC is 40 points better than Sikeston.

I have no idea what happened with ND in that Helias game because Helias is proving to be getting better and better. They are now looking like they could be ranked in the top ten soon. They just beat the formerly undefeated Mexico team who was #3 in Class 4 tonight. I think they may have had an off game or had been missing someone against ND.

If Central beats Sikeston are they #2?

My guess is the voters take into account a similar SCC team beat a similar Sikeston team last year by 19 points. To be the man, you have to beat the man. The voters must think Scott County Central is at least slightly better than Sikeston. I agree. I think it would be a close game. And in close games either team could win. But I would favor SCC in this matchup.

No, went on Tuesday and it still had fluid on it. It wasn't very sore but it was swelled up still. He goes back today and if the swelling is down then he might be ready sometime next week.

This years Sikeston team is far better than last years Sikeston team. I would venture to say that this team is the BEST Sikeston team ever, IMO. SCC might be the same but not Sikeston.

You also can't compare to last years loss to SCC. Sikeston did have a starter go down early and never recovered. Last year Sikeston didn't have the depth to come back. That is why this year is far superior to last years team. Heck, IMO, the personnel that comes off the bench, at least 3 of them would start on anyother team and be "the man" there. That is just another reason why this is the best Sikeston team.

As to the KFVS12 topic, that company as a whole is a joke. Covering Cape Central, which they are very hot right now, on basketball who just recently got into the top ten. What about SCC or Sikeston who have been number 1 since the poll started early January? What about Charleston? Just something to think about. All-in-all, KFVS12 is one big joke to people outside Cape County.

You better believe IF Cape beat Sikeston tomorrow night there would be coverage out the wazoo. But if Sikeston beats Cape, it'll be about 15 secs worth of highlights and then the score. And the only reason why they would show highlights is because they were there.

I've seen Sikeston play. I don't think they are that much better than last year. And I don't think this is the best Sikeston team ever either. I would probably say best ever was one of the Micheal Porter teams. Sikeston is good. I think SCC is just a little better.

I think Sikeston, SCC, Charleston and all the other "big" teams around here have gotten their fair share of coverage from KFVS. I believe the Cape Sikeston game would be covered in the same amount of time no matter who wins. If Cape won it would be covered as an upset. If Sikeston won it would covered as a big game which Sikeston won. I think any reasonable, non-biased person on here would agree with me about this.

As a Sikeston fan....IMO....I think that this year's team is better than the 2006 team that finished 2nd in state and the 2009 team that lost to Borgia in the quarters (the year that Borgia won state). I don't mean they are WAY better, I just think that their depth gives them another dimension that the other teams did not have. Also, we have more shooters and more athletes. Now, to say that we will get further than those teams....we still have several weeks left to see it actually play out on the court.

Hey now just because a team is in cape county doesn't mean they get all the coverage.Oak Ridge is in the top ten. They haven't gotten much coverage. Sikeston & SCC get more coverage than OR.But they probably should.

Solomon, how many times have you seen Sikeston play this year? I'm just curious (I know that question can come off as a jerk question, not intended that way). I think this is the best team they have had myself (Anybody shocked?). I think about the Michael Porter years and think about the shooting on those teams, and it was horrendous in my memory. Outside of Big Mike, there was always one guy who could nail shots (Kash Bratcher, Matt Ritch, Will Holifield). Then, there were a couple of guys who could bang around inside and get rebounds. Then, there was always a decent to good point guard in terms of assists (Juqualin in his early days, Darryl). Sometimes there was another good player (Julian Beard). However, the shooting was always the team's downfall. If it weren't for Mike and Ray Rodgers or Juqualin or whoever cleaning up the boards all game, the team would not have been able to score like they did. They always needed those second and third chance opportunites (which they got to due to strength).

This year, there is not the height those teams had considering Corey is their tallest player. However, with the multiple football athletes there is still that strength and athleticism to play bigger than they are. There is always a much more apparent ability to shoot. These guys don't HAVE to rely on rebounds like those past teams did (although they do help). Finally, this team is the deepest that Sikeston has had. The team that got second and the team that was defeated by ND the next year both had quite a bit of depth if I remember right considering that the 2006-07 team had multiple injuries that could have crippled other teams. However, this team does not drop off almost at all between man #1 and #10. That is why I think they are better: more shooting, more talent. I could also go into detail with the lack of "Me" ball that used to be on the team or the fact that the lack of one superstar has helped everyone step up their personal game.

I would have expected nothing less from you, old cat! I'm not knocking SCC in the least. They are a great team! I just think you are wrong....Sikeston would beat them this year. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, however....as am I. Unfortunately, we will not see the game decided on the floor this year. All we can do is jab back and forth about who we think will win.

I have to say that scc would win by 5-10, sikeston has beat everyone this year because they have been able to be just as strong in the 4th quarter as the first and they have been faster overall then everyone they have played. SCC also has beat the teams the same way so that would even out. The reason why SCC would win is simple, OTTO PORTER. Lets say he gets his 35, maybe more because he normally shines in big games, I'm pretty sure the rest of the team can put together 40 combined. Sikeston would have to play a perimeter game because lets face it, when your tallest player is 6'2"-6'3" you aren't going to get much done against an extremely long and athletic 6'8" player.

I would still love to hear why they didn't play. I mean come on! Its kind of a historic thing to have two teams both ranked #1 in the state in their class with the same zip code. But they don't play? I wonder why. Why play the last two years and not play this year? Did SCC not want to play? Not likely since they have that 'anybody, anywhere' mentality going to play teams from Chicago and Dallas. Did Sikeston not want to play? I can't see Coach Hollifield not wanting to prove he has the best team in the area. I just want to know why the game didn't happen. It's a shame they didn't play. Because Otto just killed them last year and SCC has won back to back titles I think SCC wins the debate. I think Sikeston would've won the game.

Sikeston and SCC didn't play because of one reason...Sikeston's AD. Both teams and coaching staffs and the AD from SCC wanted to play, but Sikeston's did not. There is no good reason why they did not except for Sikeston's AD. Back in 1971, there was a fight between the two teams....that's why they didn't play for almost 40 years. Then, when they did play, the Cookson boys almost ruined it. Sikeston scheduled them last year and got beat...big deal....they (SCC) were, AND ARE, a great team!!! Both schools made a ton of money!! Sorry to give you the long version....he didn't want to play it and he has the control. All of the Sikeston fans think it's crazy.....I assure you. However, we have learned to live with it this year.....it's not going to happen this year. I just with they would join the SEMO Conference, then this point would be moot (not my idea by the way...I'm borrowing from semohoops).

It is a shame those two teams did not play, it may be years until both teams are that strong at the same time again. It would have made for a great story. I have seen both teams, and in my non-biased opinion, SCC wins by 10. On another matchup (that will happen), I really think Cape may give Sikeston a run, if Williams can hit some threes, they might pull off the upset. As far as coverage, the reason Central gets more coverage than Siketson is because Central is located where? It's is all about the advertising dollars spent.

Cape will not pull off an upset. No way. Not gonna happen. Sikeston is too strong. IMO. My prediction is Sikeston 83 Cape 67. Close at half. Sikeston will pull away in the 2nd half.

Well two years ago everybody was convinced SCC would not only beat Sikeston, but beat them by 20. I think we all remember what happened in that game. Last year Sikeston was favored by most and SCC was the one that emerged victorious. If the past two years taught us anything, its that the favorite in the game isn't always the winner. Having said that, I think Sikeston would beat SCC. I'll go with, 86-85 Bulldogs. Does that score sound familiar?

I think Sikeston is vastly improved from last year. I don't think SCC is near as strong as they were. SCC's gameplan last year was pack it in the paint and make SHS beat them from the outside. Problem was, Holifield was hitting everything until he was knocked out of the game. At that point SHS had no chance and SCC pulled away in the fourth quarter. That strategy would not work this year as SHS has too many shooters to cover and Sikeston is faster and deeper than they were last year.

It's fun to talk about. Too bad we won't see it happen.

Well 2 years ago I was sitting up against the wall at the show me center in the nose bleeds but then i was looking through pictures of the game I saw one of the final drive by Bobby and it shows him being fouled in that controvesial no call that ended the game. Just sayin.

Which is another reason we probably didn't play this year, the first time we beat SCC they complained about it for the rest of the year, if thomas wouldn't have airballed a 3, then sikeston probably wouldn't have won..

I've seen that last shot from multiple angles. The so-called foul didn't happen in the act of shooting but as or right after the buzzer. Considering that and the lack of any calls made during that game, it was the right call even if every SCC fan hates to even think that. The old semoball page on youtube has a great shot of it and of the Sikeston students rushing the court in celebration over their win afterward. Great memories.

That is Massey's prediction on a neutral floor game. Sikeston also won scenarios home and away.

Massey is also predicting a 64-52 Sikeston victory over Cape Central tomorrow night.

The way I've always figured is that Massey predicts that if both teams brought their 'A' game and played to the best of their abilities, then that is what the score would be. It cannot take into account injuries, poor officials, weather (if that applies). And it also does not know that Curtis Branch is now playing for Cape Central. It can only predict what has happened throughout the season.

so according to massey both team's defenses' are pretty good. how does it not know Curtis is playing since he has played 9 games now.

Massey only can predict what a team has accomplished. It doesn't know that Curtis joined the team in midseason. As I said, it can't take into account injuries (or a new player joining). There is no way to program that into a computer. You just plug the score in and that's it. Individual players are not part of the scenario, only the team aspect. There may be a way to work out a scenario that only takes into account the nine games that Curtis has played and what Cape has done with him in the lineup, but I don't know how you would do that.

The Massey computer can't even get the games that has already been played correct (try it), how could it predict a game that has not been played.

That means somebody inputted the score wrong. Human error.

Maxpreps just updated their rankings today. SCC is still at #7 while Sikeston passed up McCluer North to come in ranked at #3 with only Hazelwood Central and Chaminade ranked in front of them. For those of you doubting Massey, if you look back at past seasons, it can be scary accurate by the end of the year. The year Sikeston played SCC and won, I believe it did call something like a three point game or less or something like that. Those computers have quite an interesting but effective formula so long as the players are healthy. Like someone else said, it calculates how well each team would do if they played at their top level which includes how that top level would do against the other teams top level.
