Rachel Crader is the editor of semoball.com. She graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism in May of 2009 before spending the summer covering the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

Highlights from Rachel's days in college include having a class down the hall from Chase Daniel and having NCAA wrestling champion Ben Askren hold the door open for her at Brady Commons, Mizzou's student center. She spent time covering Mizzou basketball, softball and baseball while working for the Columbia Missourian and is excited to return home to Southeast Missouri to cover local sports for semoball.com.

Semoball Basketball Poll (Feb. 2)

Since there were some questions last week, here is how the rankings are determined each week.

The sports staff at each of the newspapers that contribute to semoball are given a vote -- that includes the Daily American Republic (Poplar Bluff), Daily Dunklin Democrat (Kennett), Dexter Daily Statesman, Sikeston Standard Democrat and Southeast Missourian. Each staff is free to determine how they want to complete its ballot, but there are 12 total people that cover sports for those papers all across the semoball coverage area.

David Jenkins of the Standard Democrat tallies to the votes. A first-place vote is worth ten points, a second-place vote is worth nine points and so on.

All the records listed below are through Jan. 30.

it wont be right until scc stops getting ALL of the first place votes.

Crader....I have a question. You said there are 5 voters with first place votes being worth 10 points. If you have 5 voters, who is not voting? SCC has 4 first place votes and 40 points.....just curious? I have a simple mind, but I know that 5x10 does not equal 40....LOL!

I just want to say what a great job you guys & gals do on the Semoball rankings.Sometimes it takes people that live in the area, and really know basketball to understand who the best teams really are. Thanks again for all the hard work and the great job that ya'll do!!!

I say put Poplar Bluff where Kennett is and drop P.B. to where Kennett was and it looks good to me. I do think the votes should be split between SCC and Sikeston until either they play or the other loses.
