Rachel Crader is the editor of semoball.com. She graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism in May of 2009 before spending the summer covering the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

Highlights from Rachel's days in college include having a class down the hall from Chase Daniel and having NCAA wrestling champion Ben Askren hold the door open for her at Brady Commons, Mizzou's student center. She spent time covering Mizzou basketball, softball and baseball while working for the Columbia Missourian and is excited to return home to Southeast Missouri to cover local sports for semoball.com.

Leopold beats Bell City in volleyball

Hey all,

I'll have a story about this up on the site later tonight, but I traveled to Bell City to watch the Cubs take on Leopold in volleyball tonight and thought I'd let you in on the result a little early.

There was no JV game because Bell City simply doesn't have enough players to field a team, so the varsity played a best-of-five match.

Leopold won 25-18, 25-19, 23-25, 25-14. I'll have the particulars later, but it was a well-played game on both sides with a surprisingly low number of errors being made by both teams. The points that were scored were, for the most part, earned.

Just for the record, I tried to blog live from the Bell City gym, but I couldn't get the reception necessary for my wireless card to work. I'll try again at the next live event I cover!

Glad to see an article on this game. Bell City and Leopold have a great shot to meet in the state sectionals.

Note: I see the 3 out 5 format was used during this game. Several states have made this format mandatory. The format was previously voted down in Missouri. I think the 3 out of 5 format places a greater emphasis on conditioning. I would love to see MSHSAA make the format mandatory. I think it would be great for volleyball.
