A dream became reality on Tuesday for Cape Central’s Tyson Williams.

Williams signed his letter of intent to play college basketball at Missouri Baptist University.

“This is all I’ve ever wanted,” Williams said. “I’ve just been waiting for my moment to come and waiting for everything to fall in place for me. Today felt like the world lifted off my shoulders.”

Surrounded by friends and family, Williams was filled with gratitude.

“It’s very special,” Williams said. “Everyone in the pictures and everyone that stood behind me today all supported me throughout this ride. I appreciate all of them.”

Coming into his senior season, Williams’ future was undecided.

Because of some injuries, Williams began the year as the starting point guard and he flourished, helping get the attention of schools like Missouri Baptist.

“I think it was a big factor,” Williams said. “They were watching me all throughout this year so it definitely helped that I had a good season.”

During a Dec. 15, 2023 win over Farmington, Williams had a game-high 21 points and received high praise from Cape Central head coach Drew Church.

“Tyson has paid his dues, he really has,” Church said. “He’s worked hard, he’s never complained and this is his senior year and he deserves this. He’s only going to get better because up until this year he didn’t have a ton of experience, but now every game you can see him getting better.”

When deciding on Missouri Baptist, Williams said a driving force was the campus and the culture of the program.

“The campus is amazing,” Williams said. “The entire coaching staff is great and I’m sure it’s a great environment to be in and I just felt like it was a good fit for me.”

During his four years at Cape Central, Williams said he learned many valuable lessons that helped get him to the next level.

“Always trying to fight through adversity and never giving up,” Williams said of valuable lessons he learned. “There’s times where you doubt yourself and times you want to quit but you can’t and Cape Central taught me that.”

With his senior year winding down, Williams hasn’t had time to think about his goals and expectations but he knows he wants to make an impact.

“I want to do something great and make an impact,” Williams said. “I also just want to develop even more as a player.”
