Missourian Diamond Roundup, Apr. 29: Scott City softball routs Valle Catholic
It's April, and the showers have arrived in full force. Even with projected downpours, however, some teams still dared the storm for Monday action.
For Scott City softball, it turned into a huge win at home against the Valle Catholic Warriors to keep the iron hot.
SB: Scott City 15, Valle Catholic 6
Led by the three hits and four RBIs of Gracie Karrenbrock, Scott City (18-5) stormed past Valle Catholic in a rainy Monday demolition at home.
The win made it eight in a row for the Rams, who like their baseball counterparts, have just simply steamrolled most local competition as they're streaking past opponents.
Summer Wagner, Alyssa Dirden and Ava Huckstep each hit twice, with Dirden clubbing a grand slam and driving in a game-high six runs with an eye-popping performance.
The two-way star for the Rams threw a solid game in the circle, pitching all seven innings for SC and earning six runs on seven hits and five walks against a really good Valle team.
BB: Jackson 5, Dexter 0
That's three straight conference championships for the Jackson Fighting Indians baseball team, for those counting at home.
The Indians (21-6) got a gem of a game out of superstar pitcher John-Paul Sauer, throwing six innings of one-hit ball and holding Dexter to a goose egg in the title game.
Sauer struck out 12 batters as the Tulane commit swarmed Bearcat batters, surrendering just three runners all game to give Jackson ample room to grab the win.
Drake Weber led the Indians offensively with three hits, hitting a single, double and a triple, maybe shooting for the cycle had he gotten a fourth at-bat.
Jaiden Glency and Adler Flinn each hit twice in the win, with Glency clubbing a triple to finish with four total bases.
Nolan Alford got the only hit of the day for the Bearcats, leading off the game with a single before the side struck out behind him.
BB: Meadow Heights 7, Leopold 1
Meadow Heights (12-7) kept the ball rolling with a sound win against Leopold (6-7) on Monday afternoon, scoring all its runs in the first four and holding on for a lopsided winner.
Now three wins in four tries for the Panthers, they were led by a two-hit, two-RBI performance from Ransom Grindstaff while Caidyn Byrd batted in three runs with a homer to rally the troops.
Grindstaff got the winning nod on the mound, allowing two hits and not one walk in five innings, striking out eight in the process.
Four Wildcats got into the hit column, each singling to get a little juice flowing but not enough to get back over the .500 mark on the year.
