Girls Basketball Roundup: St. Vincent begins season with road win

The St. Vincent Indians began the 2023-24 season on a high note by defeating Advance on the road 55-32 on Tuesday, Nov. 21, in Advance, Mo.

Three St. Vincent players scored in the double digits during the game. Rylee Robinson led the Indians with 12 points, followed by 11 points from Cailyn Prost and 10 from Haley Emmendorfer.

Kaylee Cline led the Hornets with 11 points, while Maggie Stubenrauch added nine points. The Hornets never scored 10 points in a single quarter and were 5-for-10 from the free-throw line.

Advance took a 9-4 lead in the first quarter but it was short-lived as the Indians scored 17 points to go into halftime up 21-14. The Indians didn't look back as they outscored the Hornets 34-18 in the second have to seal their first win of the season.

St. Vincent went 24-4 and won its first district title since 2011 and returned the entire team for this season. St Vincent will play in the Fredericktown Tournament on Monday, Nov. 27 against Naylor.

Advance went 6-19 last year and has already started the new season on the wrong foot with back-to-back home losses. The Hornets will remain home on Monday, Nov. 27 to host Bloomfield.

Scott City 54, Perryville 44

Scott City's strong start to the season continued on Tuesday, Nov. 21, with a 54-44 road win at Perryville.

Lilyon Landis led the Rams with 19 points, 13 of which came during Scott City's pivotal 22-point fourth quarter. Mackenzie Lawless added 13 points, and Gracie Karenbrock scored nine points on three-point baskets.

Aby Amberger led the Pirates with 12 points while Lucy Wibbenmeyer added 10 points. The Pirates led the Rams 42-35 entering the fourth quarter. They only scored two points in the final period while the Rams were on the charity stripe for 10 free throws, in which they made eight.

Perryville returns to the court on Monday, Nov. 27 to host Woodland.

Blue Jays starting hot

Oak Ridge defeated Bloomfield on the road 40-30 on Tuesday, Nov. 21.

Reagan Howe led the Blue Jays with 13 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double, while also contributing on defense with four steals and four blocks. Madyson Ruehling added nine rebounds to go with her five points.

The Blue Jays are 2-0 to start the season and will travel to Delta on Monday, Nov. 27
