SIKESTON — The Sikeston boys’ tennis team fell 8-1 to Poplar Bluff at Sikeston High School on Thursday, April 20.

Despite facing a tough opponent, the Bulldogs remained focused and competitive throughout the match, showcasing skills and passion for the sport.

“We played a very good team that was obviously very well coached,” said Sikeston coach Spencer Ayers. “I want to shout out Michael Walton and Andon Christian.

“Walton is usually our No. 6 player but moved up and got our only win for today. He’s playing with some passion and got a big win. Christian moved up and played his first varsity singles match of the season. Even though he came out on the wrong side of the score. He fought very hard and had an amazing match.”

Poplar Bluff (3-3) plays at West Plains (7-3) on Tuesday, April 25, and hosts Notre Dame (9-3) on Wednesday, April 26.
