Woodland's Cole Schlief headed to William Woods for track

Woodland Cardinal Track and Field standout, Cole Schlief, is headed to William Woods University on a Track and Field scholarship. Schlief is the son of Dan Schlief and Margaret Schlief, both of Marble Hill. Schlief had a fantastic senior season for Woodland highlighted by earning All-District honors in four events, helping to lead the Cardinals to a team district title, and earning a second place finish at the State track meet in the long jump with a personal best jump of 21 feet 9 inches. Schlief's accomplishments have helped the second year program to really take off, as the Cardinals boys won four invitationals this season in addition to the District Championship.

Schlief will be joining a very strong William Woods Owls program. The Owls compete at the NAIA Division I level in the American Midwest Conference (AMC). The William Woods Men have won the last 3 Indoor AMC Championship Meets as well as 2 of the last 3 AMC Outdoor Championship Meets. They finished a close second at this year's AMC Outdoor Championships. In recent seasons, the Owls consistently have had athletes who have qualified for National Championship Competition. Schlief is a safe bet to be a significant contributor to the Owls future success.
