Notre Dame baseball team claims Class 4 state championship with dominant win

O'FALLON, Mo. -- The Notre Dame baseball team completed its dominant run to the Class 4 state championship on Saturday.

The Bulldogs defeated Sullivan 17-0 in five innings at TR Hughes Ballpark.

Notre Dame run-ruled five of its six postseason opponents on the way to the state title.

The Bulldogs scored twice in the first, five times in the second, three more in the third and seven times in the fourth in the victory.

Senior catcher Christian Job was 3 for 4 with two doubles and six RBIs in the game. He was 8 for 9 with eight RBIs at the final four.

Chase Urhahn, Logan Heisserer, Dean Crippen and Thomas Siebert -- all seniors -- collected two hits apiece.

Five senior reserves pinch hit and reached base as well, including Derek Hulshof. Hulshof missed the season with a torn ACL. He was cleared to hit last Thursday and got a hit in his first look at live pitching since his injury in the fall.

Senior Adam Pope started and got the win on the mound. He pitched four innings, allowing four hits while striking out three and walking none.

Senior left-hander Hunter Eftink pitched a perfect fifth to seal the win and sent the Notre Dame players onto the field for a dogpile.
