High School Football Forum: Teams you'd like to see hook it up for 2018-19 cycle

I'd love to see PHC or Ste. Gen against Bluff, Jackson, Cape, Sikeston. Let's see one of the larger schools press their luck by scheduling Webb.

I'd really like to selfishly see Bluff pick up Seckman and/or Northwest just for the easy win over a class 6 team for those seeding points.

  • Lol

I'd love for Bluff to schedule all their district opponents in all sports.

Why would it be beneficial for any competitive 5A school to schedule any game against a school in a lower classification than 4A?

PHC plays @ Sikeston this year. Week 9, I believe.

PHC beat MICDS last year, which is a pretty impressive feat.

Many 4a and 5a programs would have had a tough time doing that!

Yeah that's right PHC and Sikeston are playing each other this cycle.

Scoop, to me it's not about size of an opponent, it's about quality. Yeah a Class 5 school scheduling a traditionally losing Class 3 is stupid but say a class 5 schedules say a PHC, Ste. Gen, John Burroughs, even class 2 powerhouses like Lamar, Trinity, MVL to me that's not an issue as scheduling a Dexter, Kennett, NMCC.

  • Lamar vs Jackson.

-- Posted by crackerjack on Sun, Aug 6, 2017, at 7:55 PM
  • Valle vs Cape Central

-- Posted by swampdaddy on Sun, Aug 6, 2017, at 8:29 PM
  • My point is a top 15 5A team (there are 44ish 5A teams total) gains nothing from beating a top 5 3A team. If they were to lose to a 3A team it would be a big black eye on their season

  • Caruthersville vs Cape Central

-- Posted by basketballfanatic on Mon, Aug 7, 2017, at 4:52 PM
  • Valle/Cape Central would be cool. Bluff/PHC would be another.

    Valle/PHC

-- Posted by zachattack II on Mon, Aug 7, 2017, at 5:57 PM
  • Valle v PHC....Maybe Schweiss could show Valle his recruiting tactics in the Mineral Area.

-- Posted by Coachken on Mon, Aug 7, 2017, at 6:51 PM
  • Not necessarily scoop...MTVL beat CT last year and cape ended up ok. I see what you mean though. Much more to lose than the smaller school does. I think they should create a category like "7+ wins" (for opponents) gives you additional points. So anyone that plays a team like Valle or Lamar would get some points back even if they lose. And I mean more than they get already for strength of schedule." Playing a 6 or 7+ wins team should bring a bigger boost to the points a team earns. Win or lose.

Yeah, PHC constantly brings in hordes of D1 monsters from the deepest, darkest corners of Park Hills.

    It's totally unfair.

-- Posted by zachattack II on Tue, Aug 8, 2017, at 8:22 AM
  • It's a huge deal. PH added at least two good athletes from local schools. You don't think that any school in the area would love to have that happen? You can keep brushing it off, but name one other school that has kids "move in" that are nice athletes?

-- Posted by Coachken on Tue, Aug 8, 2017, at 11:38 AM
  • Poplar Bluff

PHC violently strongarmed these kids' parents and made them move to Park Hills. Unacceptable. This needs to be investigated at once!

-- Posted by zachattack II on Tue, Aug 8, 2017, at 11:46 AM
  • Park Hills Central and Sikeston played last season at PHC. Sikeston won 54-30.

-- Posted by semohoops on Tue, Aug 8, 2017, at 12:39 PM
  • I just wish local teams played each other more for their non conference games(despite class like yester years). I'd much rather see a Farmington or North County play PHC, St. Gen or Valle - than have to watch St. Charles, Normandy, Roosevelt, Duchesne, etc... Crowds would be better and football just as good.

-- Posted by thatDude on Tue, Aug 8, 2017, at 2:52 PM
  • Flat River Regional needs competition, why play these locals?

-- Posted by Coachken on Tue, Aug 8, 2017, at 4:24 PM
  • Cville and Cape Central. The battle of the Tigers. Straight interstate drive and not too far

-- Posted by Kennett fan on Tue, Aug 8, 2017, at 7:33 PM
  • Kennett vs Poplar Bluff would be nice or Kennett vs Greene Co Tech Both are close drives

-- Posted by Kennett fan on Tue, Aug 8, 2017, at 8:01 PM
  • Cville or Hayti vs Lake Co Tennessee.

The Bulldogs played some pretty darn good football against PHC last year. Hats off to them.

In all fairness, the Rebels did make quite a few really critical mistakes. You can't do that against teams like Sikeston.

Hats off to CoachKen. The guy rocks! Attacking the Johnny Rebs and their shady dealings. Why not change the high school name to East Missouri High School of Park Hills?

  • What's funny is one kid moved in and itll be interesting to see if he even sees anytime. Must be doing something right if everyone is talking. No matter how long you stay away the idiots are always here.

Kennett fan when I was in school we "Cville" always played Lake County that would be great! Or I would like to see us play Dyer County. We lost a great Freshman lineman to Dyer County this year that is gonna be starting on the Varsity team over there.

  • In all fairness Zachattack a 24 point loss suggests more than just a few critical mistakes

As you can clearly see, I made it a priority to praise the Bulldogs for a great win. They looked very good in the 2nd half.

  • Ok just checking. It seemed like you were trying to make it out to be a close game

  • Ole Zach wears cutoff denim shirts at times, so let's just remember that as we all read his comments.

I would most certainly wear a cutoff denimn shirt if I owned one. Absolutely. That would be a huge step up for me.

Hillsboro should make a jump to SEMO in the next cycle. They're already in the conference in wrestling and their enrollment numbers trump the rest of the MAFC Red by at least nearly 200 of the second largest enrollment. Their numbers are closer to the SEMO North schools.

    SEMO North

    Cape Central-1,132

    Farmington-1,186

    Jackson-1,032

    Poplar Bluff-1,359

    Sikeston-1,012

    MAFC Red

    DeSoto-846

    Festus-866

    Hillsboro-1,123

    North County-910

    Windsor-906

  • I would like to see a Friday night of:

    West plains at East Prairie

    Poplar Bluff at Willow Springs

    Charles-ton at Perry-vile

    Hay-ti at Farm-ington

    New Ma-drid at Mexico Mo

Jackson at Washington (since Van Buren has no football)

-- Posted by Ernie D on Wed, Aug 9, 2017, at 7:12 PM
  • WWE. You're saying cape central has more enrollment than Jackson and Bluff had 300 more than Jackson? Not sure I'm buying that.

-- Posted by crackerjack on Wed, Aug 9, 2017, at 7:53 PM
  • Well considering Cape's population is over 35,000 and Jackson's is a little over 14,000 he's probably not far off. Both Cape and Bluff lied for years to keep from being in "higher" classes for sports

-- Posted by Ohweeohahaha on Wed, Aug 9, 2017, at 9:02 PM
  • How do you know Cape and Bluff cheated on enrollment?

-- Posted by Forrest Gump on Wed, Aug 9, 2017, at 9:30 PM

Where did you get those enrollment figures? They're way off.

Remember Jackson only has 10, 11, 12 at the high school. Got the numbers from a government website. Think they were last year's numbers Actually.

-- Posted by WWE Guru on Thu, Aug 10, 2017, at 12:22 AM
  • No way they're right. If they were then Cape wouldn't be a lower classification in football.

Einstein-- Jackson school district is basically all of Cape County with the exception of Cape City limits which means there's a lot more than 35,000 population. No Cape doesn't cheat on their enrollment to keep it down. That would cost them millions in funding from the state since its based on enrollment and the more students the more funding. Last enrollment numbers I saw for Jackson was close to 1600.

-- Posted by crackerjack on Thu, Aug 10, 2017, at 5:22 AM
  • Jackson's enrollment on MSHSAA is 1523.

  • just curious - do southeast teams post big articles in the news paper when their star running back gets hurt and out for the season? Just saw in the daily journal PHC running back out for season with big picture and write up. I hate that for any young athlete especially a senior (wish him a fast recovery) - just thought it odd.

-- Posted by thatDude on Thu, Aug 10, 2017, at 10:08 AM
  • Just looked at that article Dude, ouch that hurts in more ways than one. I agree and wish a speedy recovery.

Not sure what the J-school rules would be on this, I'd imagine the player, coach, school, and the player's parents would have to sign off before releasing such info. But, articles like this aren't that un-common. I bet a search would show a few from the Southeast Missourian on this site...

    -- Posted by mojo3 on Thu, Aug 10, 2017, at 12:02 PM
  • Post dispatch had an article about big time CBC WR hurting his knee and being out. Guess it's fairly common

-- Posted by Richard Simmons on Thu, Aug 10, 2017, at 12:07 PM
  • I guess I've seen a few after the season begins and is rolling but just seemed weird because I havn't seen any camp reports, team breakdowns or their annual pre season pigskin preview.

Neither the player nor the players parents signed anything releasing any information to the newspaper on the situation
