Brian Rosener is the keeper of the Semoball Cup which is presented to the school with the most successful season. It is based on a formula that takes into account the combined winning percentage of all sports teams plus bonus points for advancement in postseason play for both teams and individuals. The bonus points are divided by the number of teams a school fields. Rosener has been the sports editor for the Daily American Republic in Poplar Bluff, Mo. since December 2001. He was born and raised in St. Louis, where he attended Lindbergh High School and Webster University. He is married to Jennifer, a Poplar Bluff native, has a son Jack and a dog named Satchel who stands in for his @semoballBrian photo.

MSHSAA Class 5 District 1 brackets

The bracket for the MSHSAA Class 5 District 1 basketball tournament is out. Cape Central will host it from Monday, Feb. 21 to Friday, Feb. 25 with the girls' final at 6 p.m. followed by the boys' final.

Cape Central has the top seed on the boys' side while the Poplar Bluff Mules are second, playing Jackson, the third seed, in the semifinal. The Lady Mules are the top seed for the girls with Jackson second.

Also, there are a few changes for the Mules and Lady Mules schedules to pass along.

First, the Lady Mules' game at Kelly which was postponed Thursday night will be played Saturday with a 1 p.m. junior varsity tipoff.

The Mules will still host Notre Dame on Friday, but homecoming will be moved to Tuesday night when the Mules host Dexter in the final home game.

Tuesday night will also be Senior Night for both the Mules and Lady Mules. The seniors will be honored following the boys' JV game, which starts at 5 p.m., and before the Lady Mules play Dexter. After the girls play, the homecoming festivities will be held before the Mules take the court.
