Mules find games

Poplar Bluff will travel to Logan-Rogersville for games Friday and Saturday to make up for the canceled Glendale Tournament.

The Mules play host Logan-Rogersville at 7:30 p.m. Friday then play Glendale at Rogersville at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Had they not traveled to the Springfield area this weekend, the Mules would have had an eight-day layoff heading into a rematch with Cape Central next Friday night. (The Tigers won the first meeting 29-23 in overtime at the SEMO Conference Tournament).

This from coach Lamont Frazier today:

"After going through a couple of weeks of adversity as this team has, to sit and only play two games in 18 days would be a major set back. I feel strongly that this team has gained some confidence and I wanted to do everything I could to get them on the floor to play. They are getting better ever day. I am pleased with their progress on and off the floor this far."

For fans just tuning in, the Mules have lost two starters since Christmas with broken bones -- center Rusty Bryant (foot) might be done for the season and leading 3-point shooter Jordan Chaligoj (ankle) could be back soon. They also added three seniors to the roster -- Asa Wyatt (No. 00), Daniel Miller (No. 31) and Joe Richmond (No. 52) -- after seven players were suspended from the program for violating team rules. Most of those players were on the JV squad but the freshmen have been thrown into the fire.

Poplar Bluff (5-9, 1-1 SEMO) has lost four of its last five and will try to avoid the program's first three-game losing streak since the start of the 2003-04 season.

Editor's note: The times that were printed in the Thursday edition of the DAR ended up being incorrect. AD Bill Caputo called after the paper went to press to say that the times had changed. They were updated here as soon as I got the call and the times were corrected for today's DAR. Sorry for any confusion.
