Rachel Crader is the editor of semoball.com. She graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism in May of 2009 before spending the summer covering the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

Highlights from Rachel's days in college include having a class down the hall from Chase Daniel and having NCAA wrestling champion Ben Askren hold the door open for her at Brady Commons, Mizzou's student center. She spent time covering Mizzou basketball, softball and baseball while working for the Columbia Missourian and is excited to return home to Southeast Missouri to cover local sports for semoball.com.

MVC Tourney, more postponed

With the threat of more winter weather (a phrase I love) in the forecast, the following games have been postponed. If you know of any other, please leave them in the comments:

Postponed

Mississippi Valley Conference Tournament (No makeup date announced)

Twin Rivers at Cape Central boys

Still happening but changed

Bell City at Oran boys varsity at 6 p.m.

Scott City at East Prairie boys varsity only starting at 5 p.m.

New Madrid County Central at Scott County Central boys varsity will start at 5 p.m.

Sure seems like the MVC called the tournament a little premature. Seems like They should have a makeup date already. Alot of people need to make plans ahead of time to make the ballgames. Should have had Sat. for makeup, just in case it didn't snow. Schools should have a little compasion for the parents that have to work. Satuday is another day of the week {that is seldom used} that can be used for games. I heard the makeup is Mon. It would be nice to know more than a day ahead of time.

possibly, but who wants take the chance when the games are being played all the way out in Greenville and most teams would be taking E Highway to get there. That's a God awful road.

Thats true there is not an easy way to get to Greenville. Didn't seem like they want the tournament.Concession stand was about the worst I have ever seen.Not even a hotdog to eat.Opps thats a little off topic.

I think if u look out your door you will see a perfectly good reason on why today was not the make up day. Greenville has to also get fans there so that they don't lose money on the tournament, which if you were there for the Zalma v Chaffee game you would have seen more players and refs than fans.

The forecast had 2-4 inches of snow for the Greenville area, and to commit to playing games today and then having to cancel them again would not have been a good idea.

Also, I think it was a great Israel cancel te games early, as you would not want to do what you did last year all the way out at Greenville, when Leopold walked in the door, they turned around and got right back on the bus. Not that big a deal in Chaffee, but your talking about more than an hour bus drive for meadow heights and oak ridge.

I'm surprised they don't do it at a more central location for the MVC. Not suggesting the Show me Center, but old Tiger Fieldhouse would fit the bill for the conference tourney just fine...

The MVC tournament was only postponed because we tried to keep the safety of the students and fans in mind. There would have been no way to play these games on Saturday either. As of right now it appears that the games will be made up on Feb. 16th.

Vince that would be just fine with me. Wouldn't be to fair for Greenville. Unlike the semo conf. the tournament is rotated every year by alphabetical order.

Heballer I totaly agree with the saftey of everyone.But the boothell conf. played their games along with alot of other teams in the south .I guess they had a better forcast than the MVC. Heard a rumor they caceled it at 10:00 in the morning. If it is on the 16th could be a late night for kids. to get up & go to school in the morning.Not much being said about that.Seems like the MVC could work this out a little better. Like play the championship on sat. and less games during the week.But as i have stated in the past the administration does not want to play any games on sat.

Idon't think Greenville will make any money on the tournament anyway.I watched Greenville play after the OR game on mon. We had more fans than they did.even though their program is stuggling.

The games were not cancelled until 2:00 right about the time some of the schools would have had to leave to make it to Greenville. Trust me, Greenville made every effort to let all schools have input on what would have been best for every school involved.

I don't really understand the big uproar?! I know, personally, I'm glad it was canceled. Why take the risk, especially since there isn't an easy way to get to Greenville from Zalma or Leopold.

Hey, why not just call this Friday's regular season games between Oak Ridge and Chaffee the championship? Same 4 teams involved. Just joking but I hate that trip to Greenville.

I was thinking the same thing, deadred. Pretty weird that the teams will play each other before playing each other, knowing that they'll be playing each other...haha. Will be interesting.

Surprised the schools didn't think of this less games for both jv and varsity, less money to be spent on sports,less travel time on bus for both teams And yes I am being sarcastic. They should play this game even if it is after the season.If not it is no use to have a conference tournament.

I'm got a little lost about what was sarcastic there, which is odd considering I speak fluent sarcasm. :)

I didn't mean to suggest that I thought Friday's game should really count for the conference tournament title. It would be more than a little unfair to ask Chaffee to play for that title on Oak Ridge's floor on its homecoming night. I was just agreeing that it is an odd situation with the teams playing a regular-season game knowing that they will be playing the MVC championship next week.

Crader This was not aimed at your post. It was aimed at the schools.Sometimes they do things that is the easy on them. This being we have a game on Fri night. Lets kill two birds with one stone and make this the conf championship. Even though it's OR homecoming. Stranger things have happened.
