Lesterville wins Class 1 title

Sorry I'm late. Just got back from the Scott City celebration.

Game one:

10-9 Lesterville. Taylor Cook with a kill to put her team ahead.

13-11 Winona. Cooks sends one out of bounds from the middle.

13-12 Winona. Hitting error for Winona.

14-12 Winona. Lesterville in the net.

14-13 Winona. Chelsey Holland with a big kill in the middle.

15-15 tie.

16-15 Lesterville. Stephanie Hill with a kill on the outside.

17-16 Lesterville.

17-17 tie. Tiffany Sullivan with the kill for Winona.

18-17 Lesterville. Sullivan again.

18-18 tie. Winona in the net.

19-18 Winona. Taylor Cook's tip of a bad set gets down for a Lesterville point.

20-19 Winona. Cook with a kill on the outside.

22-20 Winona. Lesterville calls a timeout after Cook just misses from the middle again.

22-21 Winona. I think it was Hill with the kill. Cook to serve.

23-21 Winona. Cooks nets an attack from the back row.

23-22 Winona.

23-23 tie. Holland spike isn't returned by Winona...not in bounds anyway.

24-23 Lesterville. Winona misses again, then takes a timeout.

25-23 Lesterville. Holland with a stuff to give the first game to the Bearcats. Big comeback win for them.

Game two:

2-1 Lesterville. Holland serving.

3-1 Lesterville. Winona hits it into the net.

5-2 Lesterville. Winona can't return the ball. Obviously, what Lesterville is doing is causing some of the mistakes, particularly this one.

5-3 Lesterville. Sullivan with a kill.

7-3 Lesterville. Long point goes to the Bearcats. It ended with Sullivan hitting a bad set off a bad pass into the net.

8-4 Lesterville. The Bearcats did a good job returning Sullivan's first attack of the point but couldn't get the second.

9-4 Lesterville. Kill from the outside for Lesterville.

10-4 Lesterville. Timeout for Winona after another netted attack. That time it was an unforced error.

The Lesterville crowd is doing the wave during the timeout. The Bearcat crowd is easily twice as big as Winona's, but both are cheering loud.

12-4 Lesterville. Winona is falling apart a big now. They let a ball fall on their side inexplicably and followed it up with a hit out of bounds.

12-5 Lesterville.

13-5 Lesterville. Cook with a kill out of the back row. Now Wildcat close to where that ball landed.

14-6 Lesterville. Back-row attack sails long for Winona.

15-6 Lesterville. This time Cook tips and finds a good spot.

Lesterville students: "You can't stop her."

16-6 Lesterville. Another error for Winona.

16-7 Lesterville. Bearcats miss serve.

16-8 Lesterville. Bad set costs Bearcats a point.

16-9 Lesterville. Wildcat serve hits net and gets over for and ace.

17-9 Lesterville. Lesterville ends the run on one of the best points of the match. Lot of quality offense and defense on that point.

17-10 Lesterville. Winona is playing a bit better, but it might be too late. We'll see.

19-10 Lesterville. Winona takes its final timeout.

20-10 Lesterville. Sullivan stuffs a ball for Winona but gets the net according to the down ref.

20-11 Lesterville. Fantastic defense by Lesterville on this point, but Winona keeps swinging and eventually gets it down.

21-12 Lesterville. Teams exchange kills.

22-12 Lesterville. Hitting error for Winona and Sullivan has rotated to the back. Not good for Winona.

22-13 Lesterville. Hill's spike misses.

22-14 Lesterville. Bearcats can't return serve.

23-14 Lesterville.

24-14 Lesterville. Holland with the kill on an overpass.

24-15 Lesterville.

25-15 Lesterville. Holland's stuff seals the state title for the Bearcats.

The Lesterville players will get their individual medals and trophy just as soon as the second place Winona team gets its medals.
