Rachel Crader is the editor of semoball.com. She graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism in May of 2009 before spending the summer covering the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

Highlights from Rachel's days in college include having a class down the hall from Chase Daniel and having NCAA wrestling champion Ben Askren hold the door open for her at Brady Commons, Mizzou's student center. She spent time covering Mizzou basketball, softball and baseball while working for the Columbia Missourian and is excited to return home to Southeast Missouri to cover local sports for semoball.com.

Notre Dame-Saxony soccer cancelled for Thursday

The high school soccer match between Notre Dame and Saxony Lutheran that was scheduled for this afternoon has been cancelled due to the ridiculous amounts of rain that have been falling on the region for days.

Only the varsity match will is being rescheduled, according to Notre Dame coach Brad Wittenborn. The game will now take place at 7 p.m. on Monday at Notre Dame.

I'm surprised Notre Dame doesn't have a field with a state of the art drainage system. Truly, if their soccer facilities are at all similar to their baseball facilities, you should be able to play the World Cup there. I'm absolutely NOT trying to be some kind of conspiracy theorist here, I'm just wondering why New Madrid and Saxony/Notre Dame have fields that are evidently unplayable. Poor drainage? Different type of grass? Heavy soil? Fields in low-lying areas? High water table? I have seen every field in southeast Missouri many times, and I don't recall seeing fields that couldn't tolerate the amount of rain we have been having to the point that they weren't fit to be used. Any turf specialists out there with an answer?

Notre Dame's field does sit down lower than the school and the baseball field.

This is speculation. I am curious if Notre Dame could have cancelled the soccer game so their fans could attend the state softball playoff game in Poplar Bluff this afternoon. I am just speculating.

I was at New Madrid last week. In my opinion, they have a great drainage system on their football field. I did not walk on the field. I did walk on the dirt surrounding the field, however. My shoes sunk into the mud about a foot everytime I took a step. Maybe it's the kind of dirt they have on the New Madrid field that prevents them from playing this week. I was also very surprised to see the game moved to Dexter.
