After falling behind 4-0 in the first inning, Notre Dame crawled back to win a 16-11 slugfest against Farmington on Thursday at Notre Dame Regional High School.

The Bulldogs took an 11-5 in the third inning after a 7-run rally. Head coach Jeff Graviett said they just wanted to chip away at the deficit and they did a good job putting up runs.

“We scored two in the first, we didn’t want to try and get all four back at the same times,” Graviett said. “The first three or four innings we were putting up runs but we did get kind of stagnant there towards the end.”

Senior Cole Lemons started on the mound for Notre Dame before he was relieved by freshman Houston Crawford, who threw four innings without allowing a run before Farmington scored four runs in the fifth. He finished the day with five strikeouts and only one earned run.

Graviett said he may have pushed Crawford an extra inning but was proud of how he handled himself.

“He was throwing well so I didn’t want to take him out but I thought he did a good job,” Graviett said. “He kept his composure and threw a ton of strikes, didn’t really help him out in that last inning, he could have had us out of here in five but I’m proud of his effort, he’s gonna be a good one.”

Just about every Bulldog was involved on the offense with junior Jack Evans leading the way with a 4-for-5 day with five RBIs followed close behind by senior Will Dodson who went 3-for-5 with four RBIs of his own. Graviett said their ability to hit the ball was their best quality throughout the game.

“I thought we hit the ball well, we’ve been struggling offensively the first few games out,” Graviett said. “We’ve been playing well defensively, so you’re gonna get it one way and take from the other but I thought we swung the bats well.”

Notre Dame (2-1) travels to take on Park Hills Central on Friday.

Oran 15, Delta 0 (3 innings)

The Oran Eagles defeated the Delta Bobcats 15-0 in three innings on Thursday at Oran High School.

Oran was led on offense by senior Nicholas Massey who went 3-for-3 with two doubles and five RBIs including a home run and senior Kolton Payne threw a no-hitter while striking out six batters.

Oran (4-2) travels to Scott City at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday while Delta (0-4) will play in the Delta Round Robin this weekend.

Chaffee 17, Bloomfield 8

The Chaffee Red Devils defeated the Bloomfield Wildcats 17-8 on Thursday at Bloomfield High School.

Chaffee was led on offense by junior Levi McKinnie who went 2-for-5 with a home run and five RBIs and junior Kade Atkins was awarded the win on the mound. The Wildcats’ offense was led by senior Kayden Vaughn who went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs.

Chaffee gets East Prarie at home at 4:30 p.m. on Monday while Bloomfield (2-2) travels to Saxony Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
