Sikeston stuns Perryville in road upset

PERRYVILLE, Mo. — Sikeston pulled off a 58-51 upset at Perryville on Monday, Jan. 23.

Freshman Alex Segers led the Lady Bulldogs (4-13) with a game-high 26 points. She also had five rebounds, seven steals, an assist and a block.

“We finally put together four quarters and beat a good team,” said Sikeston coach Vaughn Shephard. “I am so proud of our girls and the way they are playing right now. They are a fun group to coach. No matter what adversity we faced last night our girls were mentally ready and it was a sight to see. They left everything out on the floor.”

Sikeston’s other leaders were Landri Hammontree with 19 points, seven assists, six rebounds and two steals; Jakiah Adams with six points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals; and Nayla Bonner with four points, three rebounds, three assists and six steals.

The Lady Pirates dropped to 7-2 with the loss.

“Shout out to Perryville and their coaching staff, they have a good team and they did not make it easy for us,” Shephard added. “I also like to give a shout-out to my assistant coach Adam Winkler, he is doing a great job with our junior varsity team and brings so much to our program, I enjoy having him on the sideline with us and we work so well together.”

Sikeston is on the road at Dexter (11-7) on Thursday, Jan. 26.
