Notre Dame downs Lady Mules

CAPE GIRARDEAU — A 17-point second quarter paced the Notre Dame Bulldogs in a 46-30 win over the Poplar Bluff Mules on Thursday night at Notre Dame Regional High School.

Both teams struggled offensively to begin the game with Notre Dame leading 8-3 after one quarter of play.

The second quarter was where the Bulldogs made their mark both offensively and defensively as they outscored the Mules 17-5 to take a 22-8 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Poplar Bluff came to life offensively and with their offensive rebounding in the third as they won the quarter 14-12 but trailed 37-22 heading to the fourth.

Following a fourth quarter that featured back-and-forth scoring the Bulldogs were able to hang on 46-30 to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Poplar Bluff was led by Madelyn Eads who had 12 points, all of them coming from inside the arc. Following up Eads’ 12-point night was Adrianne Casey who had six points and Kennedy Zgaynor who had fives.

Poplar Bluff (1-5) will try to snap a three-game losing streak when they open play in the Gibson County Pre-Christmas Tournament on Monday, Dec. 19 when they play Obion County Central.

Twin Rivers 51, Campbell 42

At Broseley, Hannah Bader scored 17 points and pulled down 17 rebounds to lead the host Lady Royals past Campbell.

“We did a great job of playing with energy and effort on the defensive boards and we rebounded and blocked out really well tonight,” Twin Rivers coach David Crockett said after the game. “Super proud of my entire team tonight.”

Reese Crismon added 15 points and four assists for the Lady Royals.

Van Buren 63, Naylor 24

At Naylor, the visiting Lady Bulldogs dominated on the way to a big win over host Naylor.

“Almost every single player scored,” Van Buren coach Torrie Ricker said. “It was a good game for us after not having a game for almost a week.”

Alivia Yarbrough led the Lady Eagles with eight points in the loss.

“Van Buren is a good team,” Naylor coach Logan Foster said. “We are sick. We are hurt. But we are playing.”

Senath-Hornersville Christmas Classic

Greenville 43, Senath-Hornersville 40

At Senath, Thursday night’s match up between the top-seeded Greenville Bears and No. 4 Senath-Hornersville Lions was supposed to be a redemption game for the Lions after falling to Greenville in overtime in last year’s Senath-Hornersville Christmas Tournament final.

Instead, it turned out to be a brutal, shockingly close battle that upheld the Bears’ success when visiting Senath.

Easton Evans led Greenville in scoring, putting up 22 points on his own, while Owen Scherr contributed five and Ty Huffmaster, Carter Irions and Trey Porter each scored four.

Naylor 60, Armorel, Ark. 29

At Senath, the Eagles had four players in double figures as they advanced to the consolation final at the Senath-Hornersville Christmas Classic.

“We played great defense,” Naylor coach Ed Moore said. “That's what won us the game.”

Damian Thilman led Naylor with 14 points, while Sam Rose added 11 and the duo of Brock Woolard and Cameron Sarabia each finished with 10.

The Eagles play Piggott, Ark. Friday at 3:30 p.m. for the tournament's consolation championship.

Clearwater 83, Lesterville 63

At Piedmont, the host Tigers put five players in double figures as they beat Lesterville in a Black I.

Charles Robbins led Clearwater (6-4, 1-1 BRL) with 20 points, while Keegan Gracey added 15, Landon Towe and Lance Dilport each had 13 and Brayden Wilson finished with 10.

Van Buren girls 63, Naylor 24: Mya Gillespie scored 13 points and Ella Wilbanks and Madison Mabry each scored nine points for Van Buren. Naylor got eight points for Alivia Yarbrough and Harley Sullivan added six points.
