High School softball roundup, Sept. 3: Notre Dame ends Softballfest with 13-3 win over Van Buren

Notre Dame concluded its own Softballfest with a 13-3, five-inning victory over Van Buren on Saturday to remain undefeated on the season.

Holding a 5-3 lead entering the bottom of the third, Notre Dame exploded for eight runs to put the visiting Bulldogs away after neither team scored over the next inning and a half.

Senior Ainsley Burnett led Notre Dame's offense, going 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run, a double and five RBIs.

Sophomore catcher Colleen Jumerson added three RBIs on one hit while seniors Halle Ressell and Ali Ziegler batted in two runs apiece.

Senior Kadi Dohogne (2-3, 2B) and sophomore Jacie Smith (2-3) also contributed at the plate.

Sophomore Taylor Kutz picked up the win in the circle, allowing four hits and two earned runs while striking out two and walking two over five innings.

Just four batters recorded hits for Van Buren, and junior Mya Gillespie had the Bulldogs' lone RBI.

Senior Olivia Christensen was tagged with the loss, giving up 11 hits and 13 runs (four earned) over four innings of work. Christensen walked four and struck out none in a losing effort.

Notre Dame (6-0) is scheduled to travel to Neelyville for a 4:30 p.m. matchup on Tuesday, while Van Buren (1-7) is slated to host Fredericktown on Wednesday.

Kelly 10, Cape Central 4

The Kelly Hawks utilized a five-run third inning to pick up a 10-4 victory over Cape Central on Saturday at the Notre Dame Softballfest.

The Hawks were led offensively by junior Allie Daniel and senior Paiten Groves who had two RBIs apiece. Daniel went 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple while Groves was 1-for-3.

Juniors Kayleigh Holman and Macy Burger each hit a double for Kelly while senior Leah Lambert added a triple.

Kelly junior Mallory Lemonds earned the win, giving up six hits and three earned runs over five innings of work. She struck out one and walked two in a winning effort.

The Tigers were led at the plate by senior Ki Bogan who went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Sophomore Audrey Ray also contributed with an RBI.

Sophomore Isabella Pattengill picked up the loss for Cape Central, giving up eight hits and seven earned runs in a losing effort whole striking out one and walking four.

Kelly (6-4) is set to host North County on Tuesday and Neelyville on Wendesday, while Cape Central (2-4) travels to face rival Jackson on Wednesday.
