C1 STATE TRACK & FIELD: Richland's Hux wins shot put title

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Richland senior Bailee Hux claimed the MSHSAA Class 1 shot put title Friday while other area athletes also turned in all-state performances or advanced to finals at Adkins Stadium.

Hux won with a throw of 41-feet, 1.75-inches (12.54 meters), a little over 8 inches better than the runner-up.

Delta’s Kendall Holweg advanced to the finals in three events with the fastest times in each, the 100- and 200-meters along with the 300-hurdles.

Hayti’s sprint relays advanced along with Elijah Burnett and Brandon Rowe in the 100 and Jordan Payne in the 200. Rowe placed 11th in the 200 prelim while Eddie Pirtle was 13th in the 400 prelim.

Van Buren’s Katie Griffin earned all-state honors by placing third int he Class 1 800 with a time of 2:23.61. The senior, who also earned an all-state medal in cross country, advanced to the finals for another in the 400, winning her heat. She placed 13th in the 200 prelim.

Bell City’s Kennett Rampley placed sixth in the 3200 at 10:38.17.

Last year Hux, who has signed to compete in the throwing events at Southeast Missouri State University, placed seventh in the shot with a throw of 34-1.5 and fourth in the discus, which will be held Saturday morning.

Hux also qualified for state as a freshman, placing 13th in the shot.

Van Buren’s Caleb Ricker was ninth, 15 seconds behind the final all-state spot, at 11:00.74. The Bulldogs were 10th in the 3200-relay at 8:52.45.

Delta’s Adisen Crowden was 15th in the 200 prelim.

St. Vincent’s 800-relay was 13th while the 1600-relay finished 14th.
