Five Bulldogs advance to Class 1 individual state tennis tournament
Five Notre Dame tennis players will compete in the Class 1 individual state tournament after qualifying at Friday's sectional tournament in St. Louis.
Freshman Matthew Austin — Notre Dame's No. 5 singles player — defeated Lutheran South's Jay Grant 6-0, 6-2 to advance to the state singles tournament.
The Bulldogs' No. 1 doubles team of Charlie West and Gavin Harden advanced with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Brentwood's Nicholas Moran and Sebastian Flores, while No. 2 doubles team of Thomas Southard and Eli Youngblood defeated Lutheran South's Owen Kinder and Andrew Lewis 6-1, 6-4.
The individual state tournament begins Friday and finishes on Saturday at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Missouri.
Before heading to individual state, the Bulldogs will compete in team sectionals where Notre Dame will face Lutheran South in the sectional round, and upon advancement, will play the winner of Clayton and North County in the quarterfinals on Monday at North County High School.
