CARBONDALE, Ill. — Sikeston (4-5, 1-2 SEMO Conference) finished up the Fralish Cup in Carbondale, Ill., with a 7-1 loss to Marion (Ill.) on Saturday, April 9.

Senior Kelsie Anderson scored the Lady Bulldogs' only goal on an assist from freshman Hailey Presley, who while playing in goal managed 23 saves.

“We fought hard and learned a lot,” said Sikeston coach Gabe Dement. “The tournament is always well organized and the facilities are solid. Our team didn’t get wins, but the experience and learning that took place should be valuable for us in the future. Despite the scoreline of our second match and being shorthanded, our girls did exactly what we asked and showed improvement in many categories.”

The Lady Wildcats (10-0) are ranked the eighteenth-best team in the state of Illinois according to

“Playing against quality teams can help a team improve and grow together if they have the right attitude as a group,” Dement said. “This group is positive towards one another and very coachable. Although we have several girls who haven’t played a lot of organized soccer, the ones who are experienced are doing their best to teach and as coaches, we are doing our best to bring them up to speed.”

Sikeston is scheduled to host Cape Central (6-7, 0-0 SEMO Conference) on Tuesday, April 12.
