Boys Basketball Roundup, Feb. 9: Jackson boys hold off Miller Career Academy on road

Sophomore Blayne Harris scored a team-high 19 points in Jackson's 71-66 road win over Miller Career Academy on Wednesday night.

Harris was joined in double figures by junior Clayton Ernst who scored 18 points and Elliot Cowell who added 13.

The Indians were able to recover from a 21-8 first-quarter deficit, scoring 20 points or more in the remaining three quarters and tightening up on defense.

Three Phoenix players also scored in double figures, led by Charles Nelson's 19 points. Marlo Slaughter scored 15 and Eric Calicutt added 13 in a losing effort.

Jackson (11-9) is set to host New Madrid County Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Leopold 78, Marquand-Zion 51

Leopold rode 20-point performances from seniors Caleb Schaab and Mason Deck en route to a 78-51 win over Marquand-Zion on Wednesday at Leopold High School.

Deck scored a team-high 28 points to lead the way for Leopold, and Schaab added 22. Both seniors hit two 3-pointers, and Schaab went 4-for-4 at the free throw line.

In addition to Schaab and Deck, sophomore Brady Halter scored 10 points for the Wildcats.

Marquand was led by a game-high 30 points from junior Aidan Homan who made four 3s and went 4-for-6 from the free throw line. He was the lone Tiger to reach double figures, although Austin White came close with nine.

Leopold (15-5) will host Advance at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Marquand (3-11) will host winless Viburnum — a team the Tigers beat earlier this season for their first win after 82 striaight losses — at 6 p.m. Thursday.
