Boys Basketball Roundup, Dec. 16: Five Bernie players score in double figures in rout of Bell City

Behind a balanced attack, the Bernie Mules routed Bell City 97-38 Thursday night at Bernie High School.

Tristan Johnson scored a game-high 23 points, Noah Foster had 22, Michia Schooley had 18, John Nimmo 15 and Laterrence Robinson 10.

Bernie made 10-pointers with Schooley sinking six.

Chase Schaefer paced Bell City with 11 points.

Bernie (6-0) will meet Gideon in the first round of the Bloomfield Christmas Tournament at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27.

Bell City (0-6) will face Charleston in the first round of the Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament at 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27, at Cape Girardeau.

The Bulldogs edged visiting Twin Rivers on Thursday night.

Corbin Dougherty led Van Buren with 14 points while Landon Hayworth scored all 12 of his points in the second half, including seven during a fourth-quarter comeback.

The Bulldogs, who trailed 29-25 at the start of the final quarter, got eight points from Mokken Hills while Landon Dunn added six. Van Buren knocked down five 3-pointers but was 2 for 10 at the foul line.

Ryan Tompkins scored 19 points to lead Twin Rivers, sinking 7 of 12 free throws, while Jagger Crismon and Colton Hargraves each scored 10 points. Crismon sank both of the Royals’ 3-pointers.

Twin Rivers lost by four points or less for the third straight game, all on the road.

Leopold 67, Delta 44

Leopold got a game-high 21 points from Mason Deck and 12 points from Caleb Schaab as the Wildcats beat Delta 67-44 for the second time in the 2021-22 season at home Thursday.

Leopold outscored the Bobcats 46-17 in the first half and cruised the rest of the game as Wildcat coach Gary Poyner played most of his bench in the second half.

10 players scored for Poyner, led by seniors Deck and Schaab. Sophomore Brady Halter finished in double-figures with 11 points and Gavin Merriman added six.

Delta (2-6) received 13 points from Carter Scherer and 12 points from Casey Crowden, and much like the first game between the two teams on Nov. 29, the Bobcats were unable to hang with the Wildcats.

Leopold (6-1) will play St. Paul Lutheran of Farmington in the Rotary Classic played at Mineral Area College in Park Hills on Saturday.

Delta will host Oran at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
