Girls Basketball Roundup, Dec. 3: Scott City topples Puxico in Lady Devil Tournament opener

The second-seeded Scott City Rams took care of business early, turning an 11-point first-quarter advantage into a 54-point shellacking against seventh-seeded Puxico on Saturday in the first round of Chaffee's Lady Devil Tournament.

Scott City turned up the defense in the second quarter, holding the Indians scoreless while putting up 25 unanswered points en route to a 70-16 win.

Kacie Daigger led all scorers for the Rams with 25 points, 15 coming from beyond the arc. Gracie Karrenbrock scored 12 points for Scott City and Mackenzie Lawless and Lilyan Landis scored 11 apiece.

Puxico’s Lanie Wilkerson paced the Indians with four points, while Adi Denny and Elixis Crawford added three each.

Scott City (5-0) will play Meadow Heights at 6:30 p.m. on Monday in the tournament's semifinals.

Puxico (0-3) will play Woodland in consolation play at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Meadow Heights 50, Woodland 38

Sixth-seeded Meadow Heights upset third-seeded Woodland 50-38 Saturday in the first round of Chaffee's Lady Devil Invitational.

Rachael Hellebusch and Ashley Gruenke each recorded double-doubles for the Panthers. The pair scored a game-high 15 points apiece and Hellebusch grabbed 13 rebounds while Gruenke pulled down 10.

The Panthers led 12-8 after the first quarter, 27-15 at intermission and never trailed in the game.

The Cardinals (1-2) received 13 points from senior Ally Whitener and seven points from Chloe Goodwin.

Meadow Heights (5-1) will play second-seeded Scott City in Lady Devil Invitational semifinal action at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Chaffee.

Woodland (1-2) will play at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday in a consolation matchup with Puxico.

Top-seeded Oran shot out to a 30-0 first-quarter lead against the Bloomfield Wildcats and rolled into the semifinal round of the Lady Red Devil Classic girls basketball tournament Saturday at Chaffee.

Three Oran players scored in double figures with Hannah Boshell producing a game-high 14 points.

Natalie Sills paced Bloomfield with nine points, including a 3-pointer.

Oran (2-0) will meet Kelly in the semifinals at 5 p.m. Monday. Bloomfield (0-4) will face Chaffee in the consolation semifinals at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
