Trinitee Jackson was a problem for Southeast Missouri State.

The Arkansas State forward's 25 points and 15 rebounds were a big reason the Redhawks succumbed to a 73-65 loss on Monday at the Show Me Center.

SEMO caused much of its own damage.

The Redhawks committed 18 turnovers, shot 8 for 15 from the free-throw line and yielded 20 offensive rebounds.

Many of Arkansas State's second-chance points came down the stretch of a game that had five ties and nine lead changes.

The Redhawks, who have lost three straight, never led in the fourth quarter.

"We weren't playing well. We have to come out warm from the jump," SEMO guard Roshala Scott said.

Scott had a team-high 14 points and four assists for SEMO, which led 49-46 late in the third quarter when the Redhawks manufactured a 10-0 run.

Arkansas State, a struggling program in recent years picked 10th in the Sun Belt Conference preseason poll, answered with a 12-2 run and never trailed again.

SEMO coach Rehka Patterson wanted a more consistent effort on both ends of the floor.

"We have to fight like we're the underdog every single game, because we are," Patterson said.

Jackson, a 6-foot-3 junior from Dallas, scored 15 points in the first half against the Redhawks' young post.

"We knew that was going to be a difficult matchup and we didn't always execute our game plan," Patterson said. "She is extremely talented and can do a lot of things well."

SEMO regularly sent Arkansas State to the free-throw line, where the Red Wolves hit 23 of 30 attempts.

SEMO, which lost to national power Texas and 2021 NCAA Tournament team Stephen F. Austin last week, moved the ball well, though, totaling 16 assists.

Deanay Watson added 10 points, seven rebounds and three steals for SEMO and Halle Smith had 10 points.

The Redhawks host Mississippi Valley on Friday.
