Kelly picks up thrilling, last-minute win against Jefferson to advance to C2D1 semifinals

Kelly picked up a thrilling Class 2 District 1 victory against Jefferson on Friday night, beating the Blue Jays 22-21 to advance to the semifinals.

Down 21-14 late in the game, the Hawks marched down the field and scored on an 11-yard pass from freshman quarterback Skyler Still to senior receiver Kaleb Ziegler. Kelly converted the ensuing two-point conversion to take a 22-21 lead, ultimately winning the game.

Still completed 10-of-14 passes for 176 yards and three touchdowns — two of which went to senior receiver Ty Powers.

Powers had six receptions for 127 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Hawks in receiving. Ziegler made two catches for 17 yards and a touchdown.

Kyler Ziegler led Kelly in rushing, carrying the ball seven times for 43 yards.

Sophomore running back Reece Eftink recorded 61 total yards of offense for the Hawks, running the ball 18 times for 31 yards and making one reception for 30 yards.

Kelly (7-3) will travel to face top-seeded New Madrid County Central (7-1) in a district semifinal at 7 p.m. Friday.
