Notes: New Madrid County Central rebounded from their first loss last week by dominating Class 4 Sikeston 44-0. The Eagles usual high-powered passing attack was impacted by a strong wind and rain but NMCC didn’t flinch, turning to a ground attack led by Corvel Williams and a dominant offensive line. The line opened gaping holes for the senior running back, as Williams finished the night 228 yards on 22 carries with four scores as the Eagles gained 280 yards on 33 attempts. Quarterback Matt Riley did connect with Shamar Williamson for two quick scores before the weather moved in as the senior receiver took two short passes and turned them into long touchdowns. The Eagles defense was just as dominant, holding Sikeston to 43 total yards as the Eagles are giving up 23.9 points per game while scoring over 42 points a game. It will be a tough test for Charleston team that could get nothing going against Scott City, dropping their sixth-straight game. The Bluejays have been outscored 263-54 in those games and never got going against Scott City. The Rams jumped out to a 28-0 lead at halftime and despite the rainy, windy weather, Scott City threw for 118 yards and three touchdowns while running for two more. While Charleston looks to hold the seventh position in the Class 1, District 1 Tournament, the Eagles are playing for the top seed and home field advantage throughout districts Thursday night. NMCC holds a slim 51.35-51.31 advantage over Carnahan (4-2) for the top spot. Carnahan will be at winless St. Francis Borgia on Friday night.
