Volleyball Roundup, Oct. 7: Oak Ridge beats Grandview on senior night

Although it was an emotional night for Oak Ridge head coach Julie Ward and her team on Wednesday, the Blue Jays handled business, defeating Grandview in straight sets, 25-11, 25-13, 25-18.

Senior Paige Glueck produced a triple-double (13 kills, 10 assists, 16 digs) to lead the team offensively, followed by junior Zoe Berry’s six kills, 15 assists, and 10 digs.

Fellow senior Mylee Schilling added four kills and sister Alivia Schilling finished with five kills.

Defensively, Abby Morrison tallied 18 digs while Allison Seabaugh finished with 15.

Oak Ridge (12-8) travels to play St. Paul Lutheran (Farmington) at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Woodland 3, Scott City 1

Woodland secured its 21st win of the season and 13th victory in a row on Thursday, beating a tough Scott City Rams team at home, 25-18, 22-25, 25-12, 25-20.

Before the game, the team honored senior setter Ally Whitener who surpassed 1,000 career assists, totaling 1,334 before the first serve.

In the game, Addie Johnson recorded 16 kills to go with 13 digs and four aces to lead the Cardinals.

Chloe Goodwin added 13 kills, 17 digs and two digs while Ally Whitener set up her teammates with 36 assists.

Whitener also pitched in with five kills and netted a game-high 21 digs.

Riley Massa tallied eight kills, six digs and five blocks.

Hailey Brotherton finished with 14 digs defensively and Mallorie Miles added nine.

For Scott City (15-7-2), Avarie O'Brien and Alyssa Dirden led the offense with eight kills each while Havynne Riley provided 27 assists in the losing cause.

Natalie Morrison supplied eight digs defensively for the Rams.

Woodland (21-3) will play in the SCAA Tournament on Monday against Puxico at Dexter High School.

Scott City will play at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday when they travel to New Madrid County Central.

Jackson 3, Advance 1

Jackson earned its 15th win of the season on the road Thursday with a four-set victory over Advance, 23-25, 29-27, 25-23, 25-14.

The Indians were paced on offense by Katy St. John’s 16 kills and Kamryn Link’s 46 assists and 15 service points.

Defensively, Alexa DeLuca finished with 16 digs and added three aces in the contest.

Jackson (15-4-2) will play at 9 a.m. against Arcadia Valley on Saturday in the first game of the host Jackson Volleyball Tournament at Jackson High School.

Advance (11-8-1) will also play Jackson Volleyball Tournament on Saturday as the Hornets will play state-ranked Valle Catholic at 9:45 a.m..

Notre Dame 3, Saxony Lutheran 0

Lexi Rubel led Notre Dame with 12 kills and Rylee McClintock followed with 11 as the Bulldogs took down Saxony Lutheran on the road Thursday night, 25-20, 25-16, 25-17.

Kristin Anderson added seven kills on offense and Sarah Brennan and Claire Jones each recorded 13 assists.

Defensively, Sarah Brennan and Anderson each posted 13 digs while Tori Rubel compiled a game-high seven blocks and McClintock added five.

Notre Dame (15-2-2) will compete in the Lutheran South Tournament on Saturday.

Saxony Lutheran (11-12-3) will play at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at Kennett.

Bloomfield 3, Bernie 1

Bloomfield downed Bernie at home on Thursday night in four sets, 25-22, 14-25, 25-17, 26-24.

Anna Eaton led the Mules with 12 kills and Sara Guzman tallied 19 assists on offense.

On defense, Mackenzie Powell finished with 11 digs.

Bernie (12-5) will play in the SCAA Tournament on Monday at Dexter High School.

Bloomfield (8-11) will play at 7:15 p.m. today when the Wildcats travel to Clarkton.

Meadow Heights 3, St Vincent 2

Meadow Heights (14-8) won against Vincent (7-14-3) on Thursday in 5 sets,

25-20, 15-25, 23-25, 25-18, and 15-13.

Ashley Allen finished with 30 assists, three kills, one block, and seven digs, while Miranda Green (seven kills, five blocks, eight digs), Taylor Jones (12 digs), Kambri Erzfeld (five kills, 11 digs, one block, three digs), Cheyenne Tonjum (three kills, two blocks), Kylee Denman (15 digs), Molly Conrad (eight kills, eight blocks), Halli Bollinger-Yount (11 kills, one block, three digs), and Ashley Gruenke (one kill, 24 digs) also contributed for the Panthers.

Meadow Heights will travel to Oran on Friday with game time at 7:30 p.m.
