Tennis roundup, Sept. 27: Haley scores a pair of wins in Saxony loss

Saxony Lutheran fell just short in a 5-4 girl’s tennis match Monday against Potosi.

Crusader freshman Abby Haley got a pair of wins, as she teamed with Maggie Hillin for an 8-3 win in the No. 2 doubles match, and an 8-4 victory in the No. 4 singles match.

In the No. 2 singles match, Ava Brown notched an 8-3 win, while Brynn Sprengel won the No. 6 singles match 8-4.

Saxony Lutheran (5-10) will host Charleston today at 4 p.m.

Gullette leads Notre Dame in sweep

Bulldog senior Megan Gullette got a pair of victories in leading Notre Dame to a 9-0 girls tennis win on Monday over Windsor.

Gullette won the No. 1 singles match 8-1, while teaming with Amina Hussein to win the No. 1 doubles match 8-1.

Other Notre Dame single wins included Hussein (No. 2, 8-3), Suna Mungee (No. 3, 8-1), Vita Galati (No. 4, 8-2), Emma Marshall (No. 5, 8-2), and Emily Fehr (No. 6, 8-2).

In doubles action, Mungee and Galati won the No. 2 match 8-0, while Marshall and Katherine Moon won the No. 3 match 8-5.

Notre Dame will host Dexter today at 4 p.m.

The undefeated Kennett girls tennis team recorded its ninth shutout of the season Monday, beating Dexter 9-0 at Kennett High School.

Five of Kennett’s nine wins were shutouts with Natalie Bolin and Emma Dorton producing the closest match, an 8-5 loss to Macy Bazzell and Malea Lack in No. 3 doubles.

Dexter (8-7) will face Notre Dame at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Cape Girardeau. Kennett (13-0) will face Poplar Bluff for a 4 p.m. Wednesday at Poplar Bluff.

The Jackson girls tennis team fell 6-3 to Oakville on Monday, snapping the Indians' six-match winning streak.

Mia Foote and Lydia Weber were able to win singles matches for the Indians, and Avery Ford and Marissa Buehler won their No. 3 doubles match.

Jackson will start individual district play at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph’s Academy in St. Louis.
