Redhawks Roundup: SEMO kicker Doak earns national honor

Southeast Missouri kicker Kenny Doak was named the STATS FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday.

Doak, a graduate transfer from the University of Maine, hit all four of his field goals in SEMO's 47-14 win over Tennessee State on Saturday at Houck Field.

Doak accounted for 17 points in the win and connected on field goal tries of 33, 40, 39 and 45 yards and averaged 54 yard on four kickoffs.

He was also named Co-Ohio Valley Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.

SEMO running back Geno Hess, who rushed for 205 yards and three touchdowns in the win, was named OVC Offensive Player of the Week.

SEMO (1-3, 1-0 OVC) travels to Tennessee Tech (0-4, 0-1) on Saturday.

SEMO soccer drops OVC opener

The Redhawks fell 1-0 to Belmont in double overtime on Sunday at Houck Field.

Maci Pekmezian scored in the 103rd minute to help the Bruins (4-4-1, 1-0 OVC) sink SEMO  (3-6-0, 0-1) to start Ohio Valley Conference play.

SEMO goalie Bailey Redden had five saves for the Redhawks, who were outshot 7-6.

The Redhawks travel to Murray State on Thursday.

Redhawks split with Tennessee State

__SEMO split its OVC opener on the road at Tennessee State, clipping the Tigers in five sets on Friday before dropping a 25-22, 25-17, 17-25, 25-22 match on Saturday.

Laney Malloy had 16 kills, 12 digs and three aces in the losing effort for the Redhawks (10-4, 1-1 OVC).  Zoey Beasley added 13 kills.

Former SEMO player Kendall Washington helped the Tigers (9-3, 1-2) beat her old team on Saturday with 11 kills.

SEMO hosts Tennessee-Martin on Thursday.
