Girls Tennis Roundup, Sept. 24: Kennett rolls to SEMO Conference tournament championship
All six Kennett athletes played for trophies at the SEMO Conference Girls Tennis Tournament at Cape Central High School on Friday in Cape Girardeau.
Kennett’s Anelle Harris won the singles championship, beating teammate Audrey Phillips 6-0, 6-0, in the title match.
Handley McAtee and Christi Tejada beat teammates Macy Bazzell and Malea Lack 8-4 to win the consolation trophy.
Those performances led the Indians to the team championship. They beat second-place Notre Dame by 7.5 points and third-place Cape Central by 11.5. Jackson was fourth, Sikeston fifth, Charleston and Dexter tied for sixth, and Caruthersville and Poplar Bluff tied for eighth.
Notre Dame’s Megan Gullette and Amina Hussein won the doubles championship, beating Megan Maxton and Emily Ford, of Cape Central, 6-0, 6-2. in the title match.
Dexter’s Julianna Rivera and Maci Comfort won their first-round match, beating Lilly Johnson-Amelia Logan, of Charleston, 6-0, 6-2. Bazzell and Lack beat them 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.
Delaney Pipken, of Jackson, beat Emma Marshall, of Notre Dame, 8-3 to win the consolation singles match.
Dexter’s Natalie Sells won her first-round match 6-0, 6-0, over Caruthersville’s Nicole Rawlings before losing 6-1, 6-0 to Phillips.
Dexter’s Kate Churchill dropped her play-in match to Jackson’s Taylor Fehr 6-1, 6-1.
