Catfish extend winning streak to 6, sweep twinbill vs. River Dragons

The Cape Catfish extended their winning streak to six games after sweeping a road doubleheader against the Alton River Dragons.

The Catfish put together 10 hits toward a winning effort in the opener, beating the Dragons 6-1 on Thursday at Lloyd Hopkins Field.

Ellison Hannah II remained hot at the plate, putting together a perfect 4-for-4 performance that included an RBI single, a double and his second home run of the year - a two-run shot in the second.

Cameron Rountree also hit his second homer of the year with a two-run blast of his own in the fifth inning.

Jalen Borders picked up his first win of the season for the Catfish. He allowed just three hits and an unearned run while punching out four batters in a complete-game effort.

Catfish 8, River Dragons 4, 8 innings

After letting a 4-1 lead slip away, the Catfish scored four more runs in the eighth inning to secure the win.

In the top of the frame, Catfish catcher Jackson Campbell — who went 2-for-4 on the game with three RBIs — was able to advance to first on an error by the second baseman that allowed two runs.

With runners on first and second, infielder Kolten Poorman — the team leader in RBIs with 16 on the year — hit a two-run double and advanced to third on an error before being thrown out at the plate.

Hunter Ralls had a solid start, allowing just one run and striking out four in six innings. He gave up five hits and walked three on the game.

DJ Wright earned the win on the mound, coming in to strike out the final River Dragon batter of the seventh inning after they were able to tie the game. He struck out two in 1 1/3 innings of work and allowed a hit. The Catfish (10-8) face the River Dragons (8-11) on Friday at Capaha Field before going on the road Saturday and Sunday to face the Quincy Gems (7-10) and the Danville Dans (11-7).
