Kennett joins Skyline, Potosi, & Diamond in Class 2 softball final four

Here is a glance at each of the team’s in the MSHSAA Class 2 softball state semifinals.

Kennett (16-8) will meet Skyline (22-1) in a state semifinal Friday at 7 p.m. at Killian Softball Complex in Springfield. Potosi (25-3) and Diamond (20-2) will meet in the other state semifinal Friday at 4 p.m.

The Class 2 third-place game is set to begin Saturday at 10 a.m. with the championship game to follow Saturday at 1 p.m.

KENNETT

PITCHING: Freshman Hadley Wilson and junior Anelle Harris have combined to throw all 121.2 innings for Kennett.

Harris is 8-5 with a 3.63 ERA. She has struck out 75 and walked 35 in 77.1 innings pitched.

Wilson is 7-3 with a 4.87 ERA. She has struck out 37 and walked 21 in 43.1 innings pitched.

HITTING: Kennett has hit 22 home runs this spring. Harris is batting .606 with six home runs and a team-high 39 RBIs. Junior Audrey Phillips is batting .488 with four home runs and 17 RBIs, junior Olivia Orf is batting .406 with 19 RBIs, Wilson is batting .525 with a pair of homers and 29 RBIs, senior Kayton Hurst is batting .493 with three homers and 25 RBIs, senior Adelynn Nelson is batting .362 with one home run and 19 RBIs, senior Jaden Yates is batting .172 with no home runs and nine RBIs, senior Hannah Davis is hitting .475 with one home run and 11 RBIs, and junior Jetta Tillmon is batting .154 with one home run and three RBIs among other starters.

PATH TO FINAL FOUR: Kennett, which placed second in Class 1 in 2019, beat Portageville 11-1 in its district semifinal, beat No. 9 ranked Senath-Hornersville with Southland 7-6 in its district final, and beat Scott City 14-4 in its state quarterfinal.

SKYLINE

PITCHING: Junior Lilly Whitten and junior Jorden Hodges have combined to throw all 122 innings for Skyline.

Whitten is 10-0 with a 0.61 ERA. She has struck out 91 and walked 19 in 46 innings pitched.

Hodges is 11-1 with a 1.38 ERA. She has struck out 54 and walked four in 76 innings pitched.

HITTING: Skyline has hit 19 home runs this season. Senior Ella Dougherty is batting .535 with a team-high five home runs and a team-high 46 RBIs. Whitten also has five home runs, 26 RBIs, and bats .463. Senior Angelina Curtis bats .541 with three home runs and 29 RBIs, senior Keelie Holmes bats .519 with no home runs and 17 RBIs, freshman Chayla Tuning bats .345 with one home run and 17 RBIs, junior Taylor Hunt bats .348 with one home run and 20 RBIs, and sophomore Lexie Curtis bats .174 with one home run and nine RBIs among other starters.

PATH TO FINAL FOUR: No. 2 ranked Skyline beat Buffalo 12-4 in its district semifinal, eliminated Strafford 9-8 in its district title game, and beat Warsaw 9-2 in its state quarterfinal to reach the state semifinals.

POTOSI

PITCHING: Junior Samantha Huck has thrown 111 of the 135 innings for the Potosi pitching staff. She is 19-1 with 0.88 ERA. She she 243 strikeouts and 20 walks.

HITTING: Freshman Gracie Lawson, who hits .380 with 36 RBIs, has hit six of Potosi’s 14 home runs. Huck, who hits .614 with a team-high 42 RBIs, has connected for five home runs. Sophomore Emily Houchstatter bats .333 with no home runs and 27 RBIs, senior Emma Eaton bats .246 with no home runs and 16 RBIs, junior Chelbi Poucher bats .422 with one homer and 15 RBIs, sophomore Haylee Sansoucie bats .306 with no home runs and 11 RBIs, sophomore Jade Williams hits .373 with one home run and 13 RBIs, sophomore Danielle King bats .220 with no home runs and 14 RBIs, and senior Hannah Jarvis bats .369 with one homer and 20 RBIs among other starters.

PATH TO FINAL FOUR: No. 3 ranked Potosi beat Bourbon 15-0 in a district quarterfinal, beat Ste. Genevieve 5-3 in a district semifinal, beat No. 1 ranked Park Hills Central 6-2 in the district title game, and beat No. 8 ranked Forsyth 4-1 in its state state quarterfinal for reach the state semifinals.

DIAMOND

PITCHING: Junior Madison Bentley and freshman Caitlyn Suhrie have combined to throw all 130 innings for Diamond.

Bentley is 14-1 with a 1.90 ERA. She has struck out 194 and walked 26 in 103 innings pitched.

Suhrie is 4-1 with a 1.81 ERA. She has struck out 12 and walked three in 27 innings pitched.

HITTING: Bentley, who bats .476 with 32 RBIs, has hit seven of Diamond’s dozen home runs. Junior Lexy Bridges, who bats .507, has three home runs and 21 RBIs. Junior Leslie Watson hits .228 with no home runs and 11 RBIs, sophomore Emilee Shallenburger bats .215 with one home run and 12 RBIs, senior Grace Irwin bats. 255 with no homers and five RBIs, freshman Grace Frazier bats .317 with no home runs and 16 RBIs, Suhrie bats .387 with one home run and 12 RBIs, sophomore Piper Brewer bats .333 with non home runs and six RBIs, and freshman Taaron Drake hits .290 with no home runs and four RBIs.

PATH TO FINAL FOUR: No. 4 ranked Diamond beat Clever 7-0 in its district semifinal, edged No. 6 ranked East Newton 9-8 in its district title game, and beat College Heights Christian 1-0 in its state quarterfinal to reach the state semifinals.
