STE. GENEVIEVE — Notre Dame's boys track team made history by taking first place at Saturday's Class 3 District 1 track meet.

"We've never won a boys' district before," Bulldog coach Ryan Long said. "I think this is the best team we've ever had."

Notre Dame claimed the district crown by 30 points over second-place Kennett, scoring a total of 144. Six Bulldogs took home gold medals.

"We're well-rounded," Long said. "We've got somebody in every event."

Senior Thomas Taylor took first place in the 400-meter dash, running a 52-flat, and was also on both district champion 4x100 and 4x200-meter relay teams along with Hayden Jansen, Cole Bruenderman, Evan Bruenderman and Caleb Garner.

"My sprint coach Brady Vetter does an awesome job," Long said. "He's got the kids bought in to basically do whatever, and it's kind of led us to the point that the relays are our bread and butter."

Notre Dame received 36 points from the high jump and long jump alone.

Senior Zach Bleckler won the long jump with a 20-foot, 4-inch leap, beating fellow senior Evan Bruenderman by an inch. Sophomore Gregory Dennis took gold in the high jump, and Bleckler finished second.

Garner (200), Evan Boyd (800), Dennis (110 hurdles), Owen Beussink (pole vault), Joseph Barber (shot put) and the 4x400 and 4x800 teams also qualified for sectionals for the Bulldogs.

Kennett scored 114 total points and had three gold medalists. Zytrevion Williams took home the title in the 100-meter dash, Brian Martin won the 200-meter dash and Latrevion Thompson was victorious in the shot put. Thompson also took second in the javelin throw.

Kennett's Camden Pritchett qualified for sectionals in the 200 hurdles, along with the 4x100 team, Owen Ross (high jump, long jump) Jordan Jarrett (triple jump) and Kiante' Depree (discus).

Joshua Alday of Dexter won a district championship in the javelin throw. Senior Jacob Meddler finished third in the 100 to qualify for sectionals, and Tristan Bryant (200), Anistin Kyle (400), Gavin Cartwright (high jump) and the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 teams

Others qualifying for next Saturday's sectional meet at South Callaway High School in Mokane, Mo., are Kelly's Alexander Swope (javelin throw) and Kameron Mayberry (1,600); New Madrid's Anthony Treadwell (triple jump and long jump) and Terrance Cranford (shot put).
