Girls Softball Roundup, May 7: Delta makes quick work of Scott County Central, Wins easily, 16-1, in three innings

The Delta softball team has scored at least 10 runs or more in their last three games, with Wednesday's contest the opening game of the C1D2 Tournament, against Scott County Central being no different, as the Bobcats cruised to a 16-1 dominating win at Oran.

Delta hammered Braves starting pitcher Madalynn Carlise from the opening pitch, as the freshman hurler couldn't even make it out of the first inning, with the Bobcats scoring 11 runs in the home half of the first frame.

Most of the runs scored for Delta in the first frame were off walks, as Carlisle gave the Bobcats eight free passes.

Addie Nichols (batted twice in the inning and recorded two, RBI singles) and Presley Holweg each recorded RBI singles in the mammoth inning.

Delta added three more runs in the second inning and two more in the third frame.

In all, the Bobcats got to Carlisle 10 times in the 1/3 of an inning, as she walked eight batters.

Kadie Pobst, Scott County Central's relief pitcher, did not fare much better allowing six runs in 1 2/3 innings.

Delta starter Presley Holweg pitched all three innings for the Bobcats, allowing just one run on three hits, striking out three, and walking none.

Both Nichols and Brooke Coomer were perfect at the dish, going 2-for-2 with Nichols driving in two runs and Coomer a single runner.

Delta (8-7) will play Valle Catholic today at 2:45 p.m. with a date in the championship game on the line.

Scott County Central ends their season with a 2-9 record.
