Boys Tennis Roundup, May 3: Farmington tops Poplar Bluff behind wins in tiebreaker

The Poplar Bluff tennis team lost a pair of tiebreakers Monday and another close match in falling 7-2 to visiting Farmington.

The Knights took two doubles matches, winning the top-seeded match 9-8 (7-4) against Poplar Bluff’s Parker Nagy and Gavin Vaughn.

Nagy lost the top-seeded singles match 8-5 to Colton Woody while Gavin Mense lost his second-seeded match 8-1. Poplar Bluff’s Collin Scobey won 8-6 while Vaughn lost by the same score. Isaac Reid lost 8-5 while Jordan Moss lost a tiebreaker 9-8 (7-1).

Reid and Moss had the lone doubles win for the Mules at 8-6 while Mense and Scobey fell 8-2.

Poplar Bluff (6-2), which had its five-match winning streak snapped, placed second to host Farmington at a tournament there Friday. The Mules travel Wednesday to Mehlville before hosting Notre Dame for Senior Day on Thursday.
